I had no idea that saying 'electronic music' took so much
effort. I get tired of all these 'genres' anyway. Too many
sub-genres and shit. I just call it fucking music and if
anyone wants to know what it sounds like, I'll let them hear
it, and then they can decide for themselves.

techno vs. pop?
strange question. i _hate_ trance etc but then i like
artists like surgeon, jeff mills..
commercial mtv pop crap is not nice but then again, i like
garbage or radiohead.

..so maybe the thing is not the genre, but the sound :)

I refuse to call the music I listen to, which has made me
feel less alone, brought me to new worlds, and even made me
weep sometimes, something as trendy and media-palatable as
"techno", "tech", "electronica", "electronic" or what have
you. a need to categorise one's music seems to point to
insecurity and discomfort when presented with something
unusual.

um

guys... there is a real genre called Techno...

not aphex twin...

but like 4 to the floor, 808 bass drum... electronic
squelches...

im NOT using techno as the broad form... for all of
electronica.

Electronica is the whole... techno is a genre

im talking about stuff you hear in trendy clubs that people
dance to. Stuff that is mindless and repetitive and no
substance... the stuff you hear all over european radio and
in their clubs.

trust me... i NEVER call the entire form of electronic music
"Techno"

this post was directed mainly at you deathsmith

"Stuff that is mindless and repetitive and no
substance." what's the point in talking about techno if
you're just gonna be prejudice about it? not all techno is
"mindless and repetitive an no substance" you elitist bitch

hahahah!

anyway, when people ask me what i bought or was just
listening to and it happens to be electronic, 90% of the
time i just say "oh, it's just weird music.." and they nod
their head and say "oh." i know so few people in person who
listen to what i listen to that it's not worth describing it
to them, and if i did - or if i had them listen - they'd
just reach the conclusion that it's weird anyway.
occasionally i'll toss out the term "avant garde" if i think
they know what it means.

did i say all techno was? NO, i said the stuff that you hear
in clubs... and not underground clubs obviously.

Im talking about the mainstream, BAD techno

of course there is good techno, and thats not what im
talking about

you defensive bitch
