I agree that Ae are talented and certainly bright blokes, but I far prefer BoC's music, circa MHTRTC to any Ae stuff.

I'd say Autechre. Love them both, but Autechre is alot more interesting... it was an adventure getting into them, whereas with BOC I was never surprised... but they do what they do better than anyone else.
But Autechre wins.
And come on, don't be so politcially correct, compare whatever the hell you want! They may be different, but comparing is fun, who cares abou their differences. The Beatles kick BOTH their asses no matter what. Now THERE'S a comparison!

Autechre! Autechre! Autechre!(counts for three votes :-) ) Ae is so much better than BoC. The two music's are different but Boards of Canada just sucks a lot!!!!! All you people that voted for BoC, you just have to listen to Astrobotnia and shut your mouth up!!! Excuse me but I think that I'm right... Rephlex's ambient is so much better than Warp's one...Just listen...

Yeah, æ are damn talented, but I don't care for their releases post-tri repetae ++, so BoC easily take the cake.
BoC are geniuses in their own right, sure they're not doing such experimental things as æ, but their music has something to it that not many/if any artists can grasp.

BoC.
if you asked me a couple years ago, I would've said Ae no contest. they were my favourite group, and as far as I was concerned, they were making advancements in sound art unparalleled by anyone else. I've grown up a lot since then, though, and I feel a lot differently about them. they are indeed experimental, but their music frequently seems passionless, apathetic. I find myself skipping most of the tracks on an Ae CD and even the ones I like, I have to ignore certain elements in order to enjoy - kinda like picking the veggies you don't like (or maybe raw sewage) out of food that would be otherwise yummy.
I think BoC are experimental, but in a way different from sitting in front of a laptop all day making your tracks. I think that they are the more adventurous of the two, certainly the more emotional. I find their tracks very beautiful, whereas Autechre's are just "cool". I feel a great deal of compassion, love, and connection to nature and some kind of lifeforce when I listen to Boards of Canada. Autechre just sounds like worship of technology to me.
I think it depends on what you look for in music. if you think music is supposed to be cool-sounding, then yeah, Autechre probably. if you think music is supposed to be beautiful, then Boards of Canada.
