6 you must never post here
7 you must never start this kind of threads
8 you must never listen to what nacmat says
9 you must give me a 20% of what you get
10 you must must must

mylittlesister that pic is great!!!

. FORM YOUR OWN LABEL: it's easy as falling off a log. Just
think up a name, open a PO box, duplicate some cassettes to
sell. Give your releases some catalogue numbers and away you
go. Wahey, you're a record company boss! (people take that
title far more seriously than "band member").

LOL

offline roygbivcore from Joyrex.com, of course! on 2002-06-26 01:36 [#00285111]

um. i made a website and talked to people i knew in bands. i
made a tape, then made more and sold them to people. there's
nothing to explain

that sounds like a really fun idea. it also sounds
expensive, though.

you know, I really really really love this idea. I think
that starting a record label is about the coolest thing that
I can think of doing. I just wish that there was a way to
make money off of it, and with the state of affairs with
filesharing and whatnot, it doesn't seem like there is...?

i believe there is ways to make money -- but the record
label would have to be artist-owned, like the virtual record
label i'm currently planning

I'm really becoming so interested in this that it's hard for
me to convince myself to go to bed despite the fact that my
contact lenses are burning in my eyes. I really want to
start my own label and release my music through it....!!!!!
how would that channel more money into it though? and how
would you make money? I'm new to this sort of thing and for
some reason, this is the first time that I'd ever given the
idea any [serious] thought.

roygbivcore, did you make any money from your record label?
this is extremely interesting to me. if you have any links,
information, etc. on your label, please let me know.

money,.get a vat-number/register your company/regester your
labelname/logo,..make a business plan (<-so the bank can see
your serious,...and give U a loan if nescesary)

search for a good distribution channel,...get a
website,..get demo's,...master the demo's etc etc etc etc

I think any reasobaly intelligent person could do it. All
you need is the capital to start off. Plugexpert's advice
sounds good to me.

You can slo advertise in local record shops for unsigned
artists and check out their stuff. If its any good then you
can arrange to press it and distribute it for a cut. If I
were you I'd also speak to a solicitor/lawyer.

Me and a few friends are doing this at college next year. I
went to visit a couple of them yesterday, and they have so
much excellent material! Same with you guys on here. There
is no reason why anybody cant do it.

just do it
-find people who are interested and who make good music
-create a website
-put some excellent music on it
-update it regularly

ok this isn't about making huge amounts of money, but it's
better than nothing

does anyone know how to go about finding a good distributor?
Are they in the phone book or something?

offline license from out of nowhere on 2002-06-26 21:41 [#00286090]

it seems like filesharing has killed any chance of making
music with a small label though. or not?

"does anyone know how to go about finding a good
distributor? Are they in the phone book or something? "

yes they R actually,....most of the times they're just
bigger labels that distribute records overseas,.and have
experience on this sort of things. Investigate this matter
in your own country,...simply by emailing labels /calling
them about this subject

do distributors charge a lot per CD?

owning a record label shouldn't be about money, it should be
about getting new music places it wouldn't go before, like
star trek with out the special effects

first get some traks and a bit of cash (not much)

just be prepared to end up losing money sometimes and i
rekon it's possible as long as you have something to put out
that people want it will come together ... what is the point
in making life difficult just decide to do it, master your
tracks, process them, press the tp's, send em out, hope you
get some disribution, if not take em round some shops etc
(just press up a few at first) get ready to put out the next
one and if you get that far legitamise the whole thing then
...

can't be that hard can it ?

thats what i rekon anyway ...

yeah, but as long as you make money on it, it doesn't have
to be a constant black hole for income... that's my idea,
I'd like it to be able to get to a point where it can
support itself, financially anyway.

I like the idea of, say, musik aus strom or schematic...
only accepting the very best material so people can expect
something good from them and not have to search through a
bunch of crap just to find one great artist... kinda like
RARE always made great games for N64. If the great artists
who had similar attention to detail and thought in music
were attracted to these great labels already in existence
instead of making their own label or something, it'd at
least make finding great music easier for everyone. People
are a bunch of political idiots that fight for rocks of all
things (gold). What we really need to do is destroy the
entire economic system, like start new stores that only
accept... hmm, maybe a particular brand of horse shoe as
currency. Then all these morons that have been hording the
gold will find it completely useless (we'll buy all the
horse shoes before they realize what's happened)
