im no expert on genres... but is this autechre album called
"electro"

it seems to be kind of dated, with all the 808 drum sounds.

it kind of ruins it for me

except the first track which is amazing

yeah, I'd call it "electro". and I really liked that aspect
of it, makes me think of legos for some reason :d

by the way that's a 606 they're using...I know cos I had
one. probably helped me appreciate the album better :)

sounds just like the 808

yeah, the hi hats and snare are very similar. the kick is
weak as hell though (listen to track 2) - for those tracks
with the nice thick kick sound, I think they sampled a
fatter kick or they got a trigger box (the 606 has trigger
outs for replacing the tom sounds)

i never managed to figure out what electro was, but i dont
think incunabula qualifies though...

in my head, electro sounds like team doyobi. but im
probably wrong... or maybe 2ls...

2ls is definately electro i think. i reckon you could class
gescom's motor ep as electro as well.

team doyobi fucken rule man. i don't know if theyre electro
or not though..

This album is awesome. I don't really care if there's too
many sounds or whatnot as long as it sounds good. And
Lowride sounds DAMN good.

Incunabula is def. not 'electro', even tho I know Sean is
fond of electro, especially Anthony Rother.

just what does Electro mean anyway? i thought it was what
all electronic music was called....

Inanunabula?

Hehe, read that as you typed it. :-) Not quite right.

That album is OK. Not as good as what they did later,
although the opening couplet of Kalpol Intro and Bike blows
me away, one of my favorite Autechre moments.

I think 'electro' was born in late 70's. It actually started
with the breakdance/hiphop thingy... Afrika Bambataa is one
of the pioneers... you migh have heard of them in the mid
80's... that's real oldskool... later nuskool electro was
created by Anthony Rother, which is IMO on of the greatest
characters in this genre. He's still going strong... check
him out to check out 'electro'. Other great artists are
Dynamix II, Dopplereffect and not to forget Tipper!

It's not really hard to find out whether a track is
'electro' or not.

probably don't want people linking these pages... Well, the
corect url should be:

I don't think that's RDJ. But I'm not that much in the know
regarding RDJ. Is Packman one of his aliases?

Mind you, the article is by David Toop and he is trying
harder to be funny than to be informational.

old school revival' cd
many of them are pants.

the article is pretty abstract since they are mixing up
diff. styles. it's not about electro alone. :-/

Yeah, all David Toop's articles are usually about his
personal mind trips rather than about the actual subject
matter.
