if you do not believe in God... then what do you believe in?

In my own experience and understanding of the universe thus
far I feel something must be there. I would call myself a
believer.

I mean, I know these questions are pointless, but where the
FUCK did anything come from??? And what the fuck are we?
What the fuck are YOU! You, yes you reading some abitrary
symbols from a photon emitting surface. Whatever the fuck
that is!!

but cant u just admit that u dont know?
instead of making up explanations..... just, basically, out
of thin air?

"gee, this would be nice and comforting..... i think ill
believe in it"

u know what i mean...... im not trying to be offensive here

and btw: obviously, i dont believe in a god

"any conscious being is god"... i don't know if i see what
you mean, but that makes sense to me — if you consider
that every conscious being has (among other things) the
power to imagine what it wants, and so, to create new
worlds, beings... and in fact, it does it every time,
because it has a subjective vision of the world... maybe
we're just imaginating everything, sometimes
unconsciously...

i don't know if it was close to what you meant... ^^

offline uzim on 2002-06-23 10:12 [#00281245]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

as for another god or supreme being... i don't really
strongly believe in anything, but i like to believe there
are forces or something... without much personality, or even
apersonal — the idea of a good and almighty god doesn't
really pleases me (i know, it's not always the most pleasant
theories who are true, but since we have no clue, i think
we're entitled to believe in whatever we want...)

No i don't belive in any gods at all.

The universe is one big organism constantly evolving to
perfection , creating perfect little life circles where
everything fits perfectly except us humans on planet earth.
We are a mistake , a mutation that should not be ,
destroying and altering everything so that it fits our
needs.
We are a virus that evolution and the forces of life is
trying to get rid of by giving us Aids and Cancer but just
like a virus we adapt and grow stronger and soon we will
spread to other planets.

Our insignifican't existence will soon be at end though and
i say Enjoy The Time We Have and make the best of it.

in the big picture we are just a fart in the universe.
A tiny tiny virus.

offline uzim on 2002-06-23 10:52 [#00281280]

i don't think the other forms of life are perfect at all...
we're just more imperfect (and dangerous) maybe :)

but that's only my opinion (:

offline Sido Dyas from a computer on 2002-06-23 10:56 [#00281286]

But they are perfekt in the sence that they all have a place
in the circle of life (Lionking basics man!!! haha!!)
We don't!!

offline Steamtank from Melancholia Isle (Poland) on 2002-06-23 11:58 [#00281327]

sometimes i believe that in the beggining there was
something- call it "god" or not, that started the whole
thing- every lifeform is beautiful and perfect.
but sometimes i find god as a remedy for our fear of death-
we always wanted to be immortal so we created god, heaven
and so on.

I believe that we are just a bunch of cells working together
to do things. I think people severely overestimated the
importance of the human race. Come on people, we're probably
going to be extinct in 20,000 (ok, we'll be long dead, but
you see my point?). When we die, these cells just die and
substances that give life such as nitrates are produced from
the decomposers and passed on for new life. I don't know
what it'll be like when we die, I can't remember what it was
like before I was born. It does seem a pretty scary premise
though, but just think how many people have died before us.

I think religion (and I don't want to offend people) is for
people to have a reason for their existance. Maybe our
existance was to just die though. Some people can't handle
the fact that maybe there's not anything else..

Id like to talk with uzim about this type of thing, as he
has seen lain, and obviously has a new way of looking at
things too :)

god Lain is cool...

there is no god, especally in any religious sense, to
believe something all knowing and all powerful could screw
up so much is ridiculous. god is for us whatever brought
about our existence, not the universe, perhaps an alien is
our creator, perhaps a large cluster of material that
exploded billions of years ago and left everything to
chance...

I think people who believe Man has come into being by chance
have an incredible (and that's not a strong enough word)
amount of faith in evolution.

It's far more logical to believe in a god, a creator.

For a single cell organism to just come into existance is a
infinitely unlikely event, so for an organism as
indescribably complex as Man to come about... we must have
been created.

bollox loogie, sure, its a hugely rare occurance for a
single celled organism to appear, but it happens, and if
things are right it stands a very good chance of surviving
and evolving. even if god created the whole, whos to say
that evolution wouldnt still happen. it very might well have
been that a god created the earth and said "lets see what
happens if I leave it alone" perhaps god wants to find out
where he/she/it came from...

I mean we have all these questions but I bet we'll find out
when were dead what's going on. and we'll all be like, we
we were stupid for thinking that and find out that the
answer is something completely different than all these
religions have you believe is truth.

Glitch: "it happens"

how do you know it happens.

I'm not ruling out evolution and mutation happening, but
it's too much to just believe that we evolved from a sinlge
cell organism
and that the single cell organism just decided to come to
life from the primordial sup

Jesus fucking Christ, I spend whole sleepless nights laying

How did God come to be, what was before him? Is he/was he
infinite? Who fucking knows. I don't even know if he's real.
I'll decide later in life, when I'm more experienced.

If he IS real, he fucking hates me!!!

Maybe because I swear alot in my posts...

i don't think we, humans, will be out in 20,000 years...
all species try to survive and evolve in function of his
'surroundings', but humans know the risks and are aware that
they die, that we will have to go away to another planet,
etc...
othes species don't that much counsiousness(??) that's why
we will always be here as long as there is a new planet for
us to go and reproduxe ourselves...
still, i mostly agree with sido about us being
parasites(??), but do you know that if men wasn't there
another species will be dominant and create big problems for
planet earth, i think we have a better chance to save our
planet caus we know how to do it and no other species could
save the planet or itself by going to another planet...
