**I'll try to keep this short, you should know this is a
culmination of a few posts over the months, and you should
also know I am a rather religious person. (please actually
read the whole thing if you are going to respond.......)

That said, it is my observation that the point of religion
has been lost in a myriad of political and social struggles
that continue to diminish what religion is really about.

Most religions I am aware of teach love, compassion, trust,
faith. All these things, to every human being, ALL of them.
So what the fuck is the deal with hating on someone who is
homosexual?

Most churches think that homosexuality is unnatural, that is
fine, KKK people still don't like African Americas, everyone
can think what they want.

The problem arises though, with what is the most powerful
message of religion. Is it compassion and love, or contempt
and hatred?

The people kill me the most are the Right Wing Religious
zealots who say, "I hate fags" HOLY FUCKING SHIT, that is
the exact opposite of the virtures tought in bibles, and
other holy books.

The WTC thing, no religion would condone that, the Koran
contains such good lessons about humilty and kindness. What
God would condone sensless killing, violence in the face of
reason? What God would condone violence towards
homosexuals??

No God would, if I may be so bold. No one's God would put
hate and evil over even at the worst, turning the other
cheak towards hate and oppression.

The most important foundations of relgion, love, kindness,
compassion, charity, for ALL humans, has been pushed aside
today to make room for political and social events.

Those who claim to be religious then can't stand
homosexuals, won't support their fellow humans, aren't
religious and they are ruining the teachings of their
respective Gods.

The most important messages of most religions will always be
wonderful virtues of human compassion and goodness, It is
the greatest shame and blight on religion around the world
that people choose to co

at least there are a few people here like B3n who will
actually think about this thesis and maybe post their
thoughts.

Yes yes, it's the internet, my pants aren't on fire, but for
fuck's sake, I think we can get some educated peopel to come

I'm fairly religious, and I try not to judge anyone for
anything... it's not my place to judge anyways... I do agree
with what you said... I really don't understand the point in
judging people because of their differences, since when are
differences bad? And really, if the Christian religion views
homosexuality as bad, it's not the peoples place to judge
now is it... a lot of people nowadays are hypocrites, not
every religious person mind you, but a lot...

funk: ontop of that, the christian religion doesn't view
homosexuals as bad - the BIBLE says that homosexuality is a
sin.

The BIBLE does teach Homosexuality is a sin, but however, it
doesn't mean that God hates you. God loves everybody, no
matter if you are straight or gay, black or white, male or
female. He loves everybody.

yes I know... but the Christian religion follows the bible
now doesn't it? I meant that, I just figured it's pretty
much the same thing, but I guess not... however, many
Christians do view homosexuals as bad I'm sure...

I've been raised in a christian family, and that is one
thing I've had a hard to time understanding, the fact that
homosexuality is considered a sin, but it's a physiological
characteristic of people, not a choice...

right -- so whenever someone comes along claiming your
sexual preference is the reason why there's WAR in the
universe or whatever -- its his own personal bias and not
what he was taught in bible school

that's the thing, God loves everyone, but people have turned
religion into a rotten, fucked up thing... I look at some
religions (I won't say names) and they are so formulaic,
"Ok, this is how we do this, and this is how we do that. We
cannot vary this at all." And I find that in some religions
today, people have way too much power... I mean, if you
believe in a certain religion, it's the God, or gods that
you're worshiping, not the priests, or people involved in
the religion...

When religious people debate things they often use the bible
as a reference and they show different proofs on how it is
wrong with homosexuality etc...
the thing is....the bible was written by lots of different
people with different ideas of what is right and wrong and
is full of contradictions and errors.
It names different kings (like Herodes) that didn't even
exist in that time period but later on haha!!

And it was written thousands of years ago!!!! Now its
2002!!!!!!! but no!!! lets follow the bible people!!

I agree... if anyone wants to know what Christianity is
about, I would say to them to read the bible and look at how
Jesus lived... not how Christians live today because noone
is perfect, and I think a lot of people look at Christians
expecting perfection, or looking for mistakes so they can
condemn Christians...

well, Christians believe that the bible was written by
people, but was given to the people by God... now, you might
think this stupid, but that's what Christians believe...

That's right, it teaches that homosexuality is wrong, but
nowhere does it say "Go gay bashing".

Lots of the problems relating to religion seem to stem from
people choosing to do God's job (judging and punishing).

I'm a non-denominational Christian, but it doesn't mean that
I go around telling people they're evil (as one
fundamentalist "Christian" told me...) nor do I have a go at
my friends who have different beliefs. If you want to
influence people that your religion is good, you should be a
good example.

Personally I can't stand these bigots who claim to be
Christians and then fund "holy wars" for example.

people do horrible things all the time in the name of god
and religion....

often, people just use religion as an excuse to do the
things they WOULD do anyway...

for example homophobic peopl and racists people find excuses
for their beliefs in the bible..

then caring/loving people back up theirs w/ the bible too

its so huge and vague that u can find something to justify
almost anything in there.....

the other thing i dont like is when people just blindly
follow the beliefs they are tought.... thats how we get all
the shit in this world
but also, i know a few religious pepole who actually admit
that if it were not for the threat of hell.... they would go
ahead and steal, and do a few other very bad things which i
will not mention...

wtf is that!??! if ur only being good to avoid some fairy
tale fictional place.... than has religion actually
accomplyshed anything?
i mean, if ur not actually being good to be good... but only
to avoid punishment, then..... well i dont think jesus would
like that at all

the other thing is:
what makes you think YOUR holy text was written by god?
theres nothing to suggest it was... except for that very
text

i mean, if i wrote something, then said it
was given to me by god, would you believe me? of course
not!

also, then what about all the other holy texts around the

are all THOSE people crazy, you just happened to pick the
right one, the real one, and all those people (and all the
other religions in history that have since died) wrong?

you and funkmaster go to church!?

I just believe in a kind of personal god that doesn't exist,
i've just got to do what I believe is right. To be a good
person I shouldn't have to have a book to tell me to do so,
to give to charity etc. I'd like to think that i'm a good
enough person to give to charity without having to be
prompted. We all have a conscience and religion is just
something that reminds you of that (though some ofcourse
tell you the complete opposite..)

Sorry that wasn't at you Ophecks. On that note..MY BRAIN

Wit doesn't apply to something like this, so we can discard
that.

Tell me how this wasn't original, and if this isn't, what
is? You want me to get relative on you?

Honestly, preaching would require me to prescribe a course
of action, which I did not do here except suggesting reform
might be needed.

I don't think you know what you are saying, or somewhere
from brain to keyboard, the translation is getting lost.

I did put lots of thought into this and tried to be
unbiased, so far a bunch of people have added to it.

If you want to take me down, attack some of my ideas, not
the fact that I posted something that you are having trouble
responding to in context.
