rester: you're maybe right

different musicians
=
different music

just different
not better
is the key
to this matter

maybe this is just a popularity poll...

offline uzim on 2002-05-23 15:42 [#00231632]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

yes... it doesn't prove anything at all about the "quality"
of the music.

maybe Ae isn't very popular 'cause it's very specific and
less accessible. that's all. :)

offline Netlon Sentinel from eDe (Netherlands, The) on 2002-05-23 15:46 [#00231648]
Points: 4736 Status: Lurker

+ the fact that ae haven't had a video like come to daddy or
windowlcker

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2002-05-23 21:42 [#00232065]

i know, i know. this may be a popularity contest or
whatever. this does not determine which artist is better,
it says nothing about the quality of their music.

this was made just for fun. it's nothing serious, as ive
specified a couple of times in this thread. dont take
anything seriously people!

the only interpretation of the results we can do is the
following:

more people (the ones that have voted anyway) prefer the
music of afx rather than ae. that is all.

thank you.

im pretty sure the contest is over, afx won it easily.
anyone think someone can actually 'win' against afx on an
afx mb?

radiohead perhaps?

but who cares...

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2002-05-28 03:55 [#00238192]
Points: 3167 Status: Lurker

Not necissarily. Just because this is an AFX MB doesn't
mean he's everyones favorite. Perhaps because this is the
best damn MB for people with similar music tastes. I mean,
the reason why AFX won is he's more influential than
autechre is. Anyone who knows the history of the genre
could of told you that.

but I still like Aphex Twin and Autechre a load...

More infuliential? How... cause he rips off styles that his
friends start up?

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2002-05-28 04:04 [#00238205]
Points: 3167 Status: Lurker

In the VERY beginning it was AFX. Everyone else followed.

Sure AFX may have "ripped" off drill 'n' bass or from [] or
even perhaps Jega, but I'm talking about when he started
out.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2002-05-28 04:06 [#00238211]
Points: 9958 Status: Lurker

I don't think Æ were on an Afx trip when they started
out...

What about LFO? I say they be more influential, you know, if
you want to look back that far.

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2002-05-28 04:12 [#00238219]
Points: 3167 Status: Lurker

To a certain degree, but most of the contemporary IDM
artists followed with AFX. LFO had a different approach(Big
Bass was it considered?) Rich had something in his head, I
mean he recorded some of the songs in SAW1 back as far as
'86.

Don't get me wrong LFO is influential, but AFX doesn't have
much in common with their sounds like a lot of the other
artists do.

go figure who ripped who in the first place...
as for ae, i think they were not so much influenced by rdj
like so many others...
one simple fact : []< started making electronic music after
hearing lfo, but he's hugely influenced by rdj, and his
known for making reworks of his older tracks. I've always
thought of many
[]< as some CW stuff speeded up

I'm actually surprised AFX won... I thought more people
liked Autechre more...

The_Funkmaster,you may be right, some like AE,some like AFX
and Squarepusher more, but the real fact is that they can't
be compared because they play different style os electronic
music....:)

that is true... but, when you ask a question "who is
better?" then all the answers are going to be personal
preferences... Aphex Twin, Autechre, and yes Squarepusher
(even though I haven't heard hardly anything by him) are
each phenominal musicians, and are super talented, but it
just comes down to who you like better... and that can be
determined sometimes... although with me I like Boards of
Canada the best, and my liking of Autechre and Aphex Twin
goes back and forth... sometimes it's Aphex Twin, sometimes
Autechre...

very surprised to see how ae got slaughtered! i thought it
would en up something like

afx - 60

ae - 40

afx for me

autechre take everything too seriously, they're just too
alien-ish and bizarre. They're probably aliens themselves!
They have some great stuff though IMO
