It must've been after I logged off. Well, OK, but closing
this one really surprised me. We actually were heading in a
totally different dirrection at the moment of closing...

Woofer: yeah, we who are not native english speakers have to
work ten times as hard to be able to communicate with others
here.

I'm on here everyday and don't argue with anyone. I never
throw insults at people and enjoy the spirit of this MB. I
discuss ideas with people and have disagreements but I never
resort to petty squabbles or childish banter.

If you take exception to my posts or threads then that's up
to you. Its your MB and what you say goes. I just think
you're being a little harsh in comparison to the way some
people behave on here. But like I said, you're the boss.

so, why don't you create a new thread and discuss the "new

if you have complainments against other users and their
behaviour, then please report this to me in a proper email
and we'll go from there.

we are having a greylist as well - where annoying
users resides. being on that list is not a good thing. the
blacklist is where the banned users belongs.

Ok, Ok, you have a point here, but still, jonesy does too.
There are people acting abusive here and there and it is
being tollerated so nobody expected that this thread gets
closed. That's all. No big deal.

Reminiscent of a situation in school, a really abusive kid
used to shout at the teacher and disrupt the class all the
time. Because this was "the way he is" the teacher gave up
trying to punish him. I was talking (about the work) and I
got detention, just because I was a "good kid".

Not having a go at you phob, just a lot of people here seem
very tolerant of some users just because that are abusive
all the time whilst others (who are usually okay) get
criticised as soon as they say something controversial...

Yeah, read ceri's last post. I am not going to get all
crybaby about this. Everyone's entitled to their behaviour
as far as I'm concerned and if I have a problem with someone
I'll just ignore them/ log off. Alarming you about it would
really make me feel like a squealer. I mean, I even wouldn't
dare making any assumptions of what you would deem abusive/
annoying behaviour. You call the shots, you make the
decisions. But I agree with ceri. Jonesy is a nice person
and his arguing is always civilised. It's obvious that he'll
be surprised to have a funny, in his opinion, a rather
innocent topic closed.

100kmh is about 60 or 65 mph. Just in case no one knew
already...

I usually do abot 70mph on the motorway, so I can't
criticise reflex.

It's an easy enough mistake to make and to say you should
have been paying more attention is a bit silly. Have
you ever turned over a tape, talked to a passenger or
used a mobile phone whilst driving? Reflex was just unlucky,
that's all.

ceri: thanks for not callin' me a liar. and I mean..
exactly.. but I was paying attention, it was just bad over
all.. timing and curimstances...

meho: yeah, I understand, Im just saying thats why I think
it was closed, none of my buisness. thats all.

Usually I do 140 or so..... so about 85/90mph... but thats
usually during the day in when there are no hazards out side
of the city on my way to her place..... ive been driving for
a LONG time and this is the first time anything really
fucked like that has happened, even accidents.... none ever
besides this dog problem I had tonight... im a good driver.

Reflex, I'm sorry about this, but instead of being a
hardhead and saying "It wasn't my fault, I'm only telling
you this so you can feel sorry for me, my girlfriend and the
dog" (loosely paraphrased), try to learn something from it.
You should not have answered your phone will driving, if it
could have been an emergency hand it to your girlfriend let
her answer it. I have a feeling (although I wasn't there)
that had you not answered your phone and lit up the
ciggerette, there would be one more dog running around.

Xanatos: I doubt it.. I really do, I would say it if I could
have gone out of the way, but I was going pretty fast {the
speed limit there} and there isnt much room on either side
of those smaller "biways" or.... subhighways, which is a
little shortcut I take to the place she lives out side my
city here. it was dark, there wasnt loud music and I light
my smoke while looking at the road the whole time paying
attention. I lit it and all of a sudden I watched this THING
jump right infront of the car, like 2 feet infront of it
instantly it was a smack sound..... theres no way I could
have moved the car to get out of the way in time. I dont
want anyone to feel sorry for me, I already said I dont feel
too bad... but I still do feel shitty about it.

One thing you can say about reflex is he's not someone
looking for sympathy: he'll bitch about feeling like shit
and stuff but will not ask you to feel sorry for him. As far
as i know...

meho: true, when I bitch to people on the net [which is only

for sympathy, thats known off from the start. I just want
someone to understand, or share a similar feeling or
experiance... thats all.

In essence, you are right, Korben, that's what sympathy is.
But, there's still a fine difference (that anyone as idle as
i am is going to split hairs over). Reflex would like to
discuss this with us, but he's not asking us to formally
abolish his sins, to tell him it wasn't his fault and that
we love him. He's not asking for that kind of a absolution
ritual: his is more of a purification through collective
mourning thing.

Anyone thinking this is just madcap rambling is probably
right.

offline korben dallas from nz on 2002-05-15 12:45 [#00220863]

:)

Before i go on .. i'd like to stress that this doesn't
really have anything to do with Reflex in person - i'm just
taking up meho's (offer?) to split hairs, which i have been
known to indulge in from time to time :)

.. i don't know that sympathy has anything to do with
forgiveness that you hint at?

ie. the abolishing of his sins

he would like to discuss it and i understand that - i mean,
you could apply ad hominen against me quite rightly - i've
never been in such or similar situation so i can't really
relate .. BUT

"I dont look
for sympathy, thats known off from the start. I just want
someone to understand, or share a similar feeling or
experiance... thats all. "

sympathy - [loose translation] being simultaneously affected
by someone elses experience/emotion etc.

doesn't really suggest anything about forgiveness?

feel free to call 'argument' or whatever.. i mean, we're
getting down to the meaning of words and such ... :)

No, no, you are right, that's what I said in the previous

rather contradictory. But I know what he was trying to
express and was to explain that.

oh. i meant your 828 post (i can't follow up posts :( on my
computer)

re: your previous post 844 - my long reply was aimed
directly at that .. about the abolishing sins and that ..
sympathy doesn't require that you abolish sins .. i thought
pointing out reflexes quote was clear enough .. i don't
know.

you stated prior to his 830 post that he's not looking for
sympathy - and then he goes - yeah i'm not asking for
sympathy - all i'm looking for is sympathy (ie inserted from
the loose translation) ..

but i agree that sharing something is different to looking
for sympathy .. but for someone to "understand" - to me
anyway .. seems to suggest an element of sympathy.

Shit, got to do something bout these split ends

the way i see the existential condition - tho i'm not sure
who's condition you're referring to exactly .. can be quite
a useful personal philosophy .. allows you to rationalise a
lot of things - and does give you a sense of responsibility
.. ie. that's more the normative part that follows from the
condition.

ok i think i might have slightly misinterpreted/misused the
term existential condition.

existentialism is the philosophy
existential condition .. is the world (loosely the picture
schopenhauer/nietzsche paints) around us .. dog eat dog ..
existentialism stresses the importance of the individual ..

eg. Sartre was in a concentration camp during WW2 reading
heidegger .. he also saw many people either fight for the
resistance, or dob other people in (ie traitors to the
french cause).

his idea therefore is you can always influence the situation
your in .. even if you're chained up in a dungeon - you
still have the opportunity to think about it differently ..

tho that was one of the criticism .. (can't remember who by)
- that it was just bourgeois (sp?) philosophising .. but had
little practical value etc.. ?? dunno - getting late ..
dunno how well that made sense or not?

It is careless driving - nothing less! And I can say that,
because I have done it myself. Except I didn't kill the dog.
So I understand how you feel. I didn't stop though...I saw
that the dog 'carried on' walking afterwards. The car behind
me stopped. But I did ring the police and report what had
happened!

I drive much carefully now!
