 | regarding the initial question my favorite mario game would have to be super mario bros 1 for nes (althoug mario 3 come
in a close second). i used to love this game so much i made
a web site about it, devoted only to that game.

 | i gotta agree with you about the snes.. if nintendo would just keep making games for it, and the
nes.. i mean, there are so many different geat games for
those systems.. there are just endless possibilities of
great games to make.. it seems kind of foolish that they
would stop making games for nes and snes all together like
that.. even though, the gba is about the same as a snes..
but it's like all they do is transfer over some old snes nes
and sega games onto it.. it's not like they make very many
new quality games for the gba..

damn it nintendo.. (i know you're reading this).. you must
learn that stunning graphics are no match for the endless
fun of having to blow dust out of your cartridge and adjust
it endlessly inside the console in order to get it to run in
 the first place..

they should make some more side scrollers. this whole 3d
over the shoulder thing is cool but come on! side scrollers
 are the ROOTS!

castlevania had some kick ass side scrolling episodes then
that lame-ass 3d game on the n64 came out. what a pile of
 crap.

 | I agree, the GBA is getting more REMAKES than anything else... the Mario Advances are just the older 2D games with
some added speech... annoying sounds when you jump.
Pointless waste of time. I think they're SCARED of screwing
up on a new side-scroller or something, tarnishing the
legacy... so much work done on so many games that we've
 fucking PLAYED BEFORE!

Castlevania for GBA is keeping up the tradition beautifully
though... Symphony of the Night for PS1 was also a shining
 example of 2D done RIGHT in a 3D age. The 3D N64
Castlevanias are actually pretty good, but not on the same
 level... there's a new 3D CV coming out for PS2, I'm
crossing my fingers that they'll get it right this time...

I'd say Nintendo is STILL focusing on gameplay more than
shallow graphic improvements though... even Mario Sunshine
had quite a bit of innovation, and Metroid's transition to
3D was as awesome as Mario's.

Play Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel for Gameboy Color... that
game is incredible for an 8-bit handheld! Old school
 gameplay and graphics.

 | "Mario 128 will feature a freshness that was lacking from Mario Sunshine."

 !!!!!
 Oh my schwippers!
Now you've got me all excited! :-D

So it looks like this Mario128-thing is actually going to be
a proper new Mario-adventure? I always thought it would just
 be a sort of puzzle-game with a Mario-theme.
But an actual new adventure platformgame... wow. I don't
think they've ever been this fast with a sequel in the
mario-series! Very good news :-) Can't wait to hear more
details and get to see some actual screenshots.

"built around a new idea that's never before been seen in
 a game."

I just know they can do it! :-D
This could be something as new and exciting just as being
able to fly in a platformgame once was. Or riding a
dinosaur. Or having a map that lets you choose which level
to go to next. They've always managed to come up with neat
 ideas like that!

 | in order to make mario 128 the really great game they are promising, they just really need to bring back yoshi. i
remember on mario 64 you could see him standing hidden on
top of the castle, but then you can't even ride on him..when
you talk to him, he just gives you some extra lives and then
 leaves..
what nintendo really needs to do if their making a new 3d
mario game using full advantage of the gamecube, is make
basically a stunning 3d version of super mario world/yoshi's
island, but with some new elements tossed in..
and bring back some of the damn mario suits with an
inventory thing to store them in.. seriously that was one of
the best thing about mario 3/mario world,..
and get rid of the fact that you heal up just from going in
 and out of water..

this looks like it'll be a good site about the mario 128,
once some actual info/screenshots get released for it:

 | What do you mean ''bring back Yoshi''? Get with the TIMES, man! He's been back for a while! See below!

I want Fire Flowers and those Capes back... AND I want more
''worlds''... Mario Sunshine felt small and caged in because
of the constant tropical theme... well, that and the lack of
many worlds. I want a variety like every other Mario game...
caves, snow, desert, fire, castles, ships, water, etc.

 | Cool link, it should be great once we get some news and screenshots...

I know Miyamoto won't let anyone down with Mario 128...
Nintendo seemed reluctant to tweak the already perfect Mario
64 mechanics too much... Sunshine wasn't ambtious enough,
almost too modest and low-key... good to know he's going all
out on this one. There's NO WAY it can suck.

 | yeah i forgot all about yoshi in that game, as i haven't played mario sunshine much.. i've been waiting for nintendo
to release some more great games, and for me to get some
money, before i buy a gamecube.
i did get the same kind of impression from what i did play
though.. it kind of seemed like a mario 64 with some better
graphics, but trapped on an island and with all mario's
great powers replaced with fuckin cleaning
 supplies..

i have a feeling once i do shell out the money for a 'cube,
and get buy wind waker, and mario 128, i'll be trapped in my
 house for months playing..

if i find out that the are going to implement the tanooki
suit or kuribo's shoe, i'll be buying the game (and a
 gamecube) right then and there..

I remember the explanation about the world -1 in SMB1, I
read it from an interview with Mr. Miyamoto in an old issue
(10 years ago?) of a mexican magazine called Club
Nintendo. It was a mistake from the programmers or
something similar. If I find it I'll return with the part of
 that interview.

 | Recently i dwl SMB3 and went right trough it all the way. No whistles - I took all the levels and castles and palaces, no
one left ontouched. In world 7, pipeworld, there's a castle
built with those rocks that turn into coins, then u have to
find one of those things that transform them. It's easier on
pc using a keyboard than the joypad, though i could do the
 same with that.

The thougest SMB i've tried is SMB2 the original follower of
SMB1 which never came to the west because it was to similar
to number one, but then it was released on SNES super mario
 allstars
