ok, it's been a while since gantz graf ep is online, time
for a rating methinks!
personally i like gantz graf for its brutality and
weirdness, in the beginning there even seem to be hidden
some sort of melody. dial i dunno (it has this shepperds
tune in it, so at least it's funny) but cap .iv is awsome,
just a really great track!

gantz graf - 9
dial - 7
cap.iv - 9.9

what does everybody think?

Only heard two track..ratings..

gantz graf--pants.
cap.iv-more pants.

like listening to static and nothing else for an insane
length of time.

gantz graf - o8.o5 (the ending is a bit so-so i think too
me)
dial - o6 (kinda boring, like the beats tho)
cap.iv - 1o (masterpiece.)

cap.iv - 9

That's the way I see it. I don't know of an Ae track that
can beat cap.iv. Altogether an impressive release.

Gantz Graf is a disapointment for me, nowhere NEAR
Confield.

Gantz Graf- 4
Dial-5
Cap.iv- 5

I don't see why everybody's praising Cap iv so much, geez...
it's shit compared to their best stuff. I love the first 20
seconds or something, the beat is just insane with all these
subtle little things in there, I can't explain... then it
just goes right to hell, boring, boring track.

like Confield did.

But it just ain't happening. This EP is a dud.

I thought this EP was very good, but the song "Dial" was a
huge waste of time for me. It was to repetitive, the beats
weren't interesting, and the melodies didn't catch me.
"Gantz Graf" was good, but I don't know why you people don't
like it.

i wont hold it against any of you, but grading gantz graf
like you have really pisses me off

i don't think you really like the music at all or understand
it if you are capable of giving it a total description with
a single number

offline cygnus from nowhere and everyplace on 2002-06-02 06:15 [#00246247]

that's just like systematic grading for students in schools,
its bullshit and doesn't mean anything it's just there to
categorize

i love how we're all over and done with this ep 2+ months
before shit's even out. warp bundling the cd with the dvd is
the smartest thing they ever decided to do, cos between the
people bored of the ep, those who burned it to cd-r 2 months
ago, and those who didn't like it, this cd wouldn't sell
shit without the dvd. i know i wouldn't buy it if it didn't
come with the dvd.

it's obvious that someone, either warped or autechre
themselves released the ep that early on soulseek for people
to listen to. the timing was just too perfect.

yeah...I think WARP know for sure that Soulseek is a great
way of getting things into the right hands...it would be
intriguging to compare sales figures for a leaked &
non-leaked release to see how having MP3s out there affects
sales (ie..it probably doesn't...)...

I was kinda stumped by the first track initially...the other
2 I liked a whole lot more but now even the first has grown
on me....

but yeah, it's not easy music to get into but what AE
is?...If I want easy then I've the whole of the CD shop to
choose from....

I'd give em each a 9 ... with the video GG gets a 9.9
(theres gonna be a few dropped jaws in IDM land once the
video is released...be prepared to change your mind about
GG)...

I wanna see the reedit of SBV as well...wonder why they've
done a re:edit tho?...

I agree with you about the grading, cygnus..but it's
interesting to see the variety of reactions to the EP...

Seems like a lot of people don't like it but Confield was
pretty universally disliked when it came out so it's still
early days....AE have never let me down with music, and
that's something I can't say with most bands...

offline titsworth from Washington, DC (United States) on 2002-06-02 09:04 [#00246330]

i think leaking the new ep a month in advance would've
helped them. leaking it, what, 4 months in advance (and
someone says they had it in 2001) i think is going to hurt
their sales big time

offline jand from Braintree (United Kingdom) on 2002-06-02 10:04 [#00246351]
Points: 5975 Status: Moderator | Show recordbag

yeah...I wonder why it was so delayed...

The videos been done for ages (the poster I've got is
NOV2001)...so the music must've been complete before
that...

maybe due to the AstroB releases in June...that's another
must-buy and perhaps AE didn't want the competition...

probably something stupid like a spelling mistake....

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving out
numbers... I either dislike, like, or hate a track, and it's
easy to gauge how much I like it with a number.

The EP has grown on me, a bit...

Gantz Graf- 4 - It starts cool, but I don't like the rest
much

Dial- 6- I hated it, but now I think it's kind of neat in a
cheap way

Cap iv- 6- growing on me, but the first 20 seconds are
sometimes all I listen to. I HATE the late little crazy bit.

flow

i'm really looking forward to the video

gantz graf is established as a solid, melodic groove
for the 1st minute, but goes into a confused noise march up
till about 3 minutes, then emerges into an aggressive groove
up till it trips & falls at the end.
overall rating: 7.0

dial has a moderately fast bouncy groove (same
percussion as lentic catachresis from confield, so it seems)
following a backbone of chromatic vertebrae that comprise an
indefinite melody. general structure is solid and constant
from beginning to end.
overall rating: 7.75

cap. iv is melody-wise the most solid trac on the EP.
the percussion; fast and dynamic. at the end the melody is
frozen and eventually fades as the percussion accelerates up
until the end at 9:00, where it spills in decomposition for
the duration of the remaining 2 seconds.
overall rating: 9.5

so that's my rating/analysis of it

i'd reckon that WARP would be able to keep tracks a secret
until much nearer the release date if they wanted to: they
managed pretty well with geogaddi.

personally, i'm going to wait til it's released..i think i'm
going to get ep7 to passify me..

look, warp themselves pressed up the promos. 400 were made,
they knew that it would create a buzz and since most don't
have dvd burners (yet), people who normally just download
stuff will have to buy it. I'm expecting it to sell a
shitload.
