I honestly feel very empty, very hollow, lacking in spirit,
soul, direction, religion and purpose.

Um, it means I'm not a baptist or a catholic or an anglican

I think all that in fighting is silly so I don't take sides

if you don't mind me asking, are you a christian because you
were brought into it by culture and nurture, or because you
seriously believe in that stuff. a civilization before ours
wrote the bible, just people like us but I suppose you know
this and are bored of pointless questions.

postmodernist, postmodernism is a state, not an ideology, or
belief system you see.

I don't go to church very often either, I see flaws in all
the theologies of the major denominations.

One of my mates feels the same way, perhaps me, you and him
could form our own new Church like Charles Manson did ;)

Meho: true, and i don't mean to say that this would be your
religion, as this implies too much effort and an
institutionalised thing as indeed you point out.

but it must be your belief. you can't not believe in
anything - because by doing so you believe in not believing
in anything: a form of internal inconsistency !! ?? dunno if
that made sense?

The problem with christian church is they won't let you
believe on your own, they want you to believe through church
and they have some serious rap to support their opoinion,
like "Church is a living body of christ on earth" and so on.
Christian mystics of the past who sought obliteration of
their ego through life in Christ on their own, without
Church being a "mediator" were persecuted...

no, I don't think so, Korben. It's like if you'd say that if
I say I am going nowhere in pareticular, then I'm going
everywhere. But I'm not. Anywhere is not everywhere (maybe
this explanation is not too good), but similarly, not
believing means just that, "not believing" and not
"believing in nothing". Now, does this make any sense?

In all seriousness I think I believe in the human spirit.
Its the only thing I can place hope in and the only thing I
think anyone can believe in; that and our relationship to
nature (not in the tree-hugging way). Its what I see around
me in both its creative ways and destructive ways. I believe
where the conditions prevail, humans are creative and when
they're blocked humans can be very destructive. I believe in
creating the conditions to maximize human potential for
creativity.

meho:

mmhh...

by saying i'm GOING nowhere in PARTICULAR - doesn't this
mean you are GOING anywhere (a particular instance of
everywhere?), anywhere is a possible place you end up, as
GOING seems to indicate a PARTICULAR destination. ... damn
.- now i've got myself in a mess

what i mean is, that while you may not preach such a belief
(ie a belief in nothing), etc. i still think it exhibits a
form of internal inconsistency .. just having trouble
explaining it -

by asserting "i have no belief" seems to have meaning
attached to it, otherwise it would undermine the point of
saying it.

so what else could this meaning be apart from an expression
of your belief - perhaps better to refer to it as your point
of view ???

wow, what an outburst of positivity. Well, I don't believe
in anything but will admit that human spirit is capable of
certain wondeful and certain atrocious things. Transcending
the mundane, being it through creating something beautiful,
or through inflicting horrible pain on yourself or any other
way you like is one of the things that actually make life
less dumb.

Korben, yes, "point of view" or "opinion" would be better,
as "belief" denotes something beyond the self, which i
reject.

i get very upset when people just change their religions and
bebeife like that..its not a matter of opinion whather God
exists or not, either He does or doesnt. you cant change
your mind. you cant pick a religion that works for you

Bob: I don't even bother thinking whether god exists or not.
It's a matter of belief so I don't care. That's why I don't
call myself atheistic: I just don't bother. I have a problem
with Christian morality and ideology, not with the existence
of god.

It would help if in this topic, words had agreed meaning.
God and religion for example, not that I care to discuss it
probably.

i'm irresolute... there's nothing i can find which would
drive me to believe in a religion in particular, nor to
atheism...

maybe there's a god, maybe not... i don't know, i happen to
pray sometimes, when i feel something, but impressions are
just impressions...

since i don't have any proof or existence or non-exitence of
god and of validity or unvalidity of religions/atheism... i
just do what i feel like... i don't feel the need of
believing in something ("something" including atheism) :)

but I agree that people changing their minds overnite is
more often than not a sign of weak and instable character
than of a sharp, enquiring mind

maybe it's insincere to pray when you're not a real
believer... but i don't really feel so, i'm just not having
an atheist attitude...

maybe god doesn't exist, but maybe there are entities/forces
that control us, without being really almighty and all
that...

and you don't need a religion to believe in something, be it
god or whatever...
