i have questions

records can get worn out. the only conclusion: the needle
is harder than the vinyl; the needle actively shreds the
vinyl as it plays. hence the stern warning about not fucking
with the turntable weights on some radio station platters

...anyways, my first question is this: what does the needle
shredding the record do to the harmonic content, and how
does this change as the temperature increases and the record
starts to melt?

[and would steel vinyl sound like steel guitar strings?]

i'm thinking things like if the vinyl starts to heat up
enough to get a little more flexible that could act as a
damper; a lowpass filter. i dunno.

that what does happen, precisely, as a record gets worn out?
to the sound?

what makes something miscible, and can i order it online?

No. There’s a place I. Town that has millions of records
and a membership is needed

We can store spin LOUDER after 5pm when the place next door
closes

YouTube and cds also acceptable as spins

hence the stern warning about not fucking with the
turntable weights on some radio station platters

...and the reason someone would do such a thing is because
scratching records, heavier weight, easier control. and,
yes, that's why they call it "scratching" i guess?

which always left the question: does playing a record always
inherently damage it on some level?

and how do i mix to get the best frequencies out of a doomed
eroding sand castle?

is it possible to say "i never got around to learning
turntables but i've always felt there would be some
sympatico" and then briefly pretend you're 23 for a few
months; very seriously smoking turntables to learn weed?
asking for a friend

have you ever thought about whether they have thought
about which breakfast sandwich to put in the square that
could potentially trigger someone to say, "i'll have a large
#2"? and which customers live in this square, anyways?

the eclectic kool-aid synaesthesia question

"purple is a fruit" --homer simpson

that i wager people quote this on its inherent wacky-factor
without even knowing it's from the simpsons, at this point.

purple is more specific than a fruit, really -- it is
grape-flavored kool-aid. orange is citric acid ["you just
got citric acid in my eye" --nelson].

red is cherry, but lighter red is strawberry, or, perhaps --
my nightmare -- watermelon. i actually like the fruit, but
the additive... anyways

green jello is another fruit; lime.

so, my question is ~

do all americans share a base synaesthetic map keyed to food
additives, a.k.a. kool-aid synaesthesia?

thanks. p.s. my favorite is blue, aka wild berry. but just
the flavor; that's not my favorite color

Q: Does this mean that playing a vinyl record is inherently
an act of destruction?

... or, to be more poetic, something reminiscent of the
japanese tea ceremony representing how every moment is
unique and can never be precisely duplicated?

A: AS THE PLAYING OF GRAMOPHONE RECORDS CAUSES GRADUAL
DEGRADATION OF THE RECORDING, THEY ARE BEST PRESERVED BY
TRANSFERRING THEM ONTO OTHER MEDIA AND PLAYING THE RECORDS
AS RARELY AS POSSIBLE.

i'm currently doing an excellent job of this.

solved:

This effect can also be used for mixing two liquids
acoustically. Faraday waves form on the interface between
the two liquids, which increases the surface area between
the two, rapidly and thoroughly mixing the liquids.

liquids enclosed by a vibrating receptacle form non-linear
standing waves that mix your track/drink. liquid is obtained
from valves/tubes

from what i know records wear out with continual degradation
simply by playing them. some old records i own sound flat,
less vivid, maybe even less loud (hard to tell really). for
example michael jacksons bad. it was my first or second buy,
back when it came out in 87 or so. now this particualr album
is a very thin press and many songs cramped onto each side,
which doesnt give the best performance, but im pretty sure
it sounded way better when i bought it. needless to say i
lpayed this one over and over for a year or two and doing
mad things like speeding it up, slowing down, playnig
reverse by hand etc.

anyway, if youre an audiophile super nerd with enough
dedication and wallet, you might want to think about buying
every record twice, since not every record gets a reprint
especially in our preferred genres of interest here. i ve
thought about this more than once, but have never bought a
backup copy. i idid however, (before the internet made
lossless available) record wavs of the analords for example
and played those, when listening over the pc.
i wanted to preserve them the best possible way.
some of those records sound a bit damp for storing reasons
well known.

the clear and perfect sound is not always important to me.
when i buy a used record in the store, well, they pretty
much closed any of those by now, but when i did, i mainly
listened for obvious crackle and checked if the record would
run properly without skipping (nothing worse)
i would buy records because of their easy access and cheap
price and i like used items. its astonishing how good in
shape a used record can be if the previous owner hasnt spun
the life out of it yet.
for a private perosn it is nowadays very easy to keep
lossless files for backup and run the records till theyre
done.
in any case thats precisely what theyre made for.

when it starts to wear out?

i only listen to the first play of virgin vinyl, allowing
myself an occasional memory of what the track was like in
its perfect state
