is there some company where you think, like: "Okay, I've seen your commercials so much it literally covers a few months worth of your waking hours, I know you exist, I know your pitch, and if I were going to bite, I'd have done it by now. At this point, you are just making me hate you more and more"

always to keep in mind for the budget-conscious shopper: when you buy a product, a certain percentage of the purchase price goes into MORE. ADS. and that by patronizing any company that practically waterboards you in ads, you are effectively subsidizing them drowning you in more ads. so, watch who wastes more of your money on "brand." esp. when it comes to insurance

now, how was this supposed to work? i think advertising started as like: "i've a new product and people very well might want it but they don't know it exists; i need a radio spot or such to get the word out. since my product is mustard, once people know, they'll tell others, i just have to start the siphon, here"
now it is more: "whoever can piss ads on the consumer more for 'mindshare' and 'brand' gets all the marbles"
it's an arms race. runaway selection. an evolutionary dead-end. a peacock's fail

i often think about this and i came to the conclusion that it boils down to "its good business to throw your name/logo around". realized this at the supermarket with friends, the store was out of coca cola and looking among the alternatives everyone chose the cola that was more present in the media at the time (there wasent any pepsi either mind you or they would have picked that). my point is that it seems that when people have to choose between 2 similar unknown products they'll probably go with the name they recognize the most. it's a like a falacy that its hardwired in the brain
