i'm sorry to ruin it, but i have to break the fourteenth wall. even though, i worry my "kinda ruining it" (#02602232) is why russell hasn't been around as of late. i just have to share the truth is not a new name at all. in fact, it is a monkey -- a very well known one. felonius monk was not so well known; it was what one of my dad's fellow students named her brain experiment monkey my sister followed the same path, for a bit. she was entrusted with a series of ducks for her research, and, as per tradition, she got to name them. she picked latin names. not, like, ricky martin, but from latin class in high school. while i respect her nostalgia, i feel it was a missed opportunity. myself, i would be stewing all weekend on some shit that would absolutely fit in with this thread |

after i posted that, i found myself asking, "the fuck did the name OGG VORBIS come from, anyways?" the answer was delightful. according to bad boy wiki p: Vorbis is named after a Discworld character Exquisitor Vorbis in Small Gods by Sir Terry Pratchett. The Ogg format, however, is not named after Nanny Ogg, another Discworld character; the name is in fact derived from ogging, jargon that arose in the computer game Netrek. so it's sort of like a "zerg rush" except for some obscure unix multiplayer star trek game. and i thot i was an outlier for liking nethack |
