i used to be a huge star wars fan. i saw "A New Hope" when
i was like six; i liked it but didn't particularly get
involved. in high school, i got the original, unfucked,
non-special version on VHS and properly fell in love with
it. part of the late 90s's star wars fan site brigade, i
am.

the phantom menace came out, and i was genuinely stoked. i
actually quite like the movie, despite jar-jar, and
fan-fiction, email lists, usenet groups, IRC, were all
going strong at the time. it was fun to be involved in. i
bought and read around 30 of the Star Wars novels. tales of
bounty hunters was the best, and the only one i kept when i
ebay'd the lot.

ennui began to set in with the second and third prequels,
which were fucking crap.

now there are like sixteen million star wars things, and i
haven't seen most of them. how many big-budget mass-release
movies have there been since the prequels, now? i honestly
couldn't tell ya. they kind of lost me when they threw out
all the novels, and i was never into the half-dozen animated
TV spinoffs.

my love for star wars was really about episode IV-VI, and i
feel like disney is sitting there expecting me to still give
a shit. to reliably sheep it out and watch every theatre
release. to give a shit about the crappy animated cartoons.
to overlook fucking shit about greedo

who shot first

i really disliked lucas rewriting the original scene, and i
disliked it even more when he refused to release the full
original cut without his soccer-mom edits. now they're doing
it again

anyways, used to be a huge star wars fan, but now if i claim
to be people would assume i've been following all this
horseshit, and i have not been. i'm out. but i still love
the original three movies (before lucas revisionism) to
death

encrypted torrent program you use to download it, files are
very big but there was always seeders

my first domain name was star wars themed, in 1998. it,
along with like twenty others, i can just make new addresses
for whatever i want then set up email rules to autosort it
all based on what it was sent to

it was a celebratory moment because at the time there was
just one, single domain registrar. no namecheap, no godaddy.
just the domain guys. they dropped the price from $100 a
year to $50 and this hit just as i was starting to
understand enough about web pages and servers to find
someone willing to host it for me

literally some weird quasi-autistic guy who gave anyone a
free account if they asked nicely and behaved and it was all
hosted off of a pair of 56k modems in his apartment or
something. me and thirty other sites

needless to say, you could make a pot of coffee while it
loaded... but, still, it worked

one of my first major projects in PHP was to take over a
"star wars link database" some guy had been manually
maintaining and write a little web administration UI to
process new submissions, clear dead ones, etc.

i started looking some of these old pages up just now, and
it's actually really weird -- many of them are still there,
but haven't been updated in years. like a time capsule

It makes me giggle that they're saying this is the last bit
Star Wars movie for a while. Horseshit, they'll announce
that an all-CGI Princess Leia origin story is in production
within a year. Somehow they'll work C-3PO into it. Then
there'll be a slapstick comedy called Wookiez, with Jim
Carrey or some shit. Actually that's more of a Dreamworks
thing, they'll license it. Disney bought this shit to milk
it.

Just kidding, they're doing to do:

Episode IV: A New New Hope

Timothée Chalamet as Luke
Zendaya as Leia
Tom Hanks as Obi Wan Kenobi
Chris Pratt as Han Solo
Vin Diesel as Chewbacca
Dave Bautista as Darth Vader
Tom Hiddleston as Grand Moff Tarkin
John C. Reilly as Clumsy Stormtrooper
James Corden as Porkins

It does have a lesbian kiss though. And Finn has a new
friend who is badly written black girl. Apart from that they
kept the woke stuff to a minimum.

Critics are sneering that this one is all about pleasing the
fans. Fine, it's a Star Wars movie, not Bergman or Kubrick.

i was really expecting it to suck, the opening titles were
embarrassing in a way, but once the film started i liked it
straight away. they got straight to the point. and i was
wondering to myself what russelldust would think of it? i
enjoyed it for the most part. it's a modernised star wars
story that offers lots of fan service. it does have some
stupid things that aren't necessary like cgi characters and
cgi faces. the space battles aren't that great, i think the
original space battles were based on wwii missions like the
dambusters movie. the battles in this film are just for the
sake of it (badly written).i was bored by the space battle
stuff, this film is mostly about Rey(totally matured now,
very sexy girl) and the best writing in the movie is Rey
related. then they did get little details right like seeing
characters argue with each other and stuff like in the
original. if you remember star wars a new hope the main
characters practically hate each other until the very end.
they only have a couple of arguments but it was a nice nod
and showed that the writers of this one "got" star wars and
tried to modernise it. the cgi isn't intrusive like the
prequels. i do wonder what the nerd crew will say, i think
they'll like it too. could be wrong, but i think everyone
will be pleasntly surprised.

copypasta
