strongly recommend the first season of this show.
apparently, the "showrunner" died, and the second season
turned into a boring buddy-cop drama. but, really, i cannot
recommend the first season enough as a perfect sort of
dripping-with-abstract storyfing

the show features drugs, but they've come up with alternate
names for everything -- forget-me-nots (club drug, probably
e), luster (judging from the apparatus, crack). it is
consistent, totally straight-faced, and emblematic of the
whole feel of the thing. you know about what they mean, but
it's sort of metaphorical, like a dream. like you're doing
drugs in a dream and these are the names you somehow come up
with for 'em

yes, yes, another epicmegatrax thread. i cannot say everyone
will enjoy this show. i'm not trying to smack absolutely
everyone over the head with it -- just trying to solidly
alert anyone who is of the right stripe.

here are some key songs that are, actually, major plot
points:

all gone
son of a

if i had to sum what i love about this series up, it's the
feeling you get when you dream about a song, and hear it in
waking life the next day.

added to my watchlist on google play, i'm skint at the
moment but i'll give series 1 a go when i've got a spare
tenner

been watching this off and on, giving myself time to mull
over each episode (and not get irritated a bit by the, um,
portentousness of it). enjoying it. no spoilers as i'm just
starting episode 9 of 10 in the first season, but i had to
stop and transcribe this:

"reaching through the waterfall is not a task for the
timid; the things you touch are as likely to harm as to
heal. lies that seem like truth, truth that seems like a
lie. it's easy for the ignorant to be brave; on the other
hand, to straddle that line, beneath the falling water,
knowing you have no way of knowing whether you're the hero
or the villain; that takes a special type of courage. rare.
in the end, none of us write our own epitaph. except maybe
bob dylan"

if the writer of this show isn't a fan of hallucinogens i
will eat my proverbial hat

oh, totally. he died, unfortunately, and the second season
is like a generic crappy episodic sci-fi show. first season
is unfortunately as far as it properly goes.

yeah. henry bromell wrote the pilot (and, presumably,
outlined a lot of the rest) with blake masters, and from
wikipedia:

He is the creator of the Showtime television series
Brotherhood, developer of the NBC television series Law &
Order: LA, and co-executive producer and writer of the NBC
television series Crossbones.

and that totally explains the disappointing deflation of
intellect/style in the second season

just realized i totally misread the wikipedia

"On April 3, 2017 USA Network renewed the series for a
second season, with Rémi Aubuchon replacing Blake Masters
as the showrunner.[3] On May 18, 2018, USA announced they
had cancelled the series.[4]"

sorry blake, it was actually rémi's fault
