lol

looks like ezquake is what i have installed. i only recently
learned how to bunnyhop, but i don't see how anyone does it
in such small levels, i always hit a wall or a stair and
lose all momentum. i practiced a bit on a big open level, i
forget what it was called, rocket arena or something.

i'll try world of padman sometime. if there's going to be a
recurring xlt game night it should be scheduled ahead of
time. is there an xlt discord? would be easier to coordinate
there i think.

looks like ezquake is what i have installed. i only
recently learned how to bunnyhop, but i don't see how anyone
does it in such small levels

i was cruising around the various offering on QuakeWorld and
i joined some empty one for the heck of it. since no one
else was there, and there were no bots, i had infinite
weapons and ammo. i could swim in the lava. promptly, i set
about trying to rocket jump. the splash damage in quake is
vicious and i never understood how people managed to do that
and live -- they always at least got hurt pretty bad -- but
with infinite rockets and invulnerability i was able to
spend a good ten minutes learning to launch myself over
ledges... until, i fell into a pit of lava. i was unharmed,
but unable to climb out. trying to jump out of a lava pool
made rocket jumping even harder. i tried valiantly to
escape, for a few minutes... then, quit the server forever

in any case ~ i was just seeing if quake would function, and
it seems it will. it's not worth going in as a group until i
can set up a server, though -- that US one promptly switched
maps last nite, and i couldn't get back on to it, and all
the other servers were either empty or private. so, you
know, we need a quake server called "Sean Booth's Elbow
Patch" with password "datears" or such and a pre-agreed upon
date/time before it will actually be anything other than a
jumble of bad timing.

anyone used to play unreal tournament ?

yes, heck yes. i was actually far better at it than quake...
but, i don't think it's open source, ported every which-way
like quake. does it still run on things without a hassle?
worth looking into

that's the great thing about quake... there's never, ever
the intense rage of FPS Doug, with quake. with the
right map, dying has pretty much zero consequences. respawn
is immediate; the weapons respawn immediately as well, and
from there you just have to learn the map a bit before you
start doing better. it was actually giving me the giggles,
how i was literally respawning every 2-5 seconds for the
first minute or two... then, i started to my bearings, and
actually frag back. you don't have to be good at it, to have
fun

UT was actually a game i would get mad at, sometimes.
perhaps that's why i got better; i dunno

offline AMPI MAX from United Kingdom on 2019-03-28 23:30 [#02572712]

actually every time i die in quake i feel a deep grinding
sickness

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2019-03-28 23:33 [#02572713]

whatever you felt, it must be better than the slow-boil of
rage one feels as halo is all "waiting to respawn" and then
you respawn and you can only run at a slow limp because that
whole game is like running around with sandbags strapped to
ya

me too. i would always play it with the second two prodigy
albums, and the propellerheads album, on loop.

then there's CS:Source, which is a little too tough and
pedestrian for this situation.

but i did enjoy mashing CS:S through some 80s video
gear to fatboy slim for a laugh
