Gosh I’m impressed. I’d love to do that, it sounds
fucking great. Yet lately getting out of bed (unless I have
to) is difficult. It’s like a rebirth, and boy am I not
happy to be alive. Takes a while to level out. I should go
to the cinema in the morning.

Can’t wait to go and watch it, I won’t go with Russella
though because watching Rogue One with her turned out to be
an absolute nightmare.

You should do it! It saved going to the cinema for me, which
i hate when it's busy, you can take a bacon sarnie and a
coffee along and you get that lovely feeling of emerging
from the darkness in to broad daylight.

Imagine a very angry man who’s just been wrestled to the
floor by three men, and yet who is slowly getting back up
with them hanging off him. Moments before I must have told
them to “fuck off” repetitively for about ten times. It
got verbal, to the point where I wanted to punch one of
them. He wasn’t very big but very agressive and feisty. I
didnt want to hurt him too much or get in trouble with the
police so I slapped him, really hard. “You don’t deserve
to be punched”. He threw two pretty poor punches at me,
and all I can then remember is that a few more people from
the building had gathered near the end of the hallway, about
ten meters from where I was (by my front door). By then the
three guys weren’t so sure of themselves and had joined
the others. I was screaming at them, absolutely screaming.
Then everyone went home because the cops turned up. Pretty
shameful really but I had drunk quite a few Belgian beers
before the screening, and trust me, I was so happy. But
someone was being a nightmare, purposely, and I went home
halfway through.

Basically I locked myself in my flat in a rage, and Dusty
tried to kick the door down, very brutal kicks. This
attracted the attention of people in the building and
because we were shouting, three chavs decided they would
come and sort me out because I must have obviously tried to
kick the door down and surely must have hit my wife. By this
time I had had enough, so when the door bell rang and those
three twats started, I very loudly told them ten times to
fuck off...

I’d do it differently now of course. I was just tested to
my furthest limits, and those three really came at a moment
when calm is necessary. They could have enquired about the
goings on, calmly, and asked to speak with my wife. That
wouldn’t have been a problem. Unfortunately they were in
my face, smirking and insinuating BS which was the last
straw for me.

Sigh.

And there's me thinking she'd just taken issue with a CGI
Tarkin.

Lovely stuff. Russell Gold. I only wish I'd been there to
weigh in. I love the "You don't deserve to be punched" and
then slapping. I am so using that.

Aw, thanks. It was a headfuck really.

I was dreading the aftermath, it’s never nice to live in a
building where neighbours conspire against you. Yet to my
surprise, not one person in the building is upset with me
(bar the woman who spits, but that’s old). As it happens,
two of the guys don’t live here, and the guy who does
“hello sir”s me. On the night my direct neighbours were
lovely, and apologised for one of the guys who was their
friend. So all in all, they liked the fact that I stuck up
for myself, and clearly know I did fuck all wrong in the
first place. Still, i would act differently if I could go
back.

Everything was back to smiles and friendly chit chat waiting
for the lift or while walking the dog.

The building is weird, it feels like a living entity. David
Lynch would like it.

That sounds like a pretty flippant, and useless comment to
me. Of course it’s not going to be bollocks. It might not
be great, or have weaknesses for sure, but those sort of
comments I take with a pinch of salt.

I dunno I'm a star wars fan of course, but I can be
objective enough to say, actually its not a good star wars
film or a good film in general, I mean the phantom menace
for instance was for the most part absolute bollocks

I remember going to the cinema for TPM, and trying to be
positive, even though many, many parts where terrible. I
soon came to myself though: I really dislike the prequels.
The directing is poor, the acting is mostly bland...
actually I could go on and on and on. I can’t think of one
character from the sequels I cared about.

With the new ones, I guess I treat them as my yearly
blockbuster. I know I won’t have been made to think, and
I’ll just take it as a rush.

New ones are no masterpieces, but I enjoyed myself far more,
and although less so in Rogue One, I cared about some of the
characters.

But as always I’ll go in positive. I just want a good
time. If I want a masterpiece, or something that gets me
thinking there’s plenty of that out there.

People in general enjoyed the lighter sides to it as well,
xlt members of course think it’s adolescent jokes. I guess
this film isn’t maybe not just made for adults?

Its hard to discuss it without spoilers, so i'll wait till
the big fans on here have seen it. Id say the truth for me
lies somewhere between the hyperbolic critic reaction and
the very negative audience reaction. Id have to see it again
to see if it holds up. Mark Hamill is by far the best actor
in it

what is startling is the difference between critic reviews

The critics don’t expect a fucking masterpiece like the
whiny little fans.

People want a film made for THEM now. If it’s a franchise,
they feel they know where it should and shouldn’t go, what
it should and shouldn’t do.

I’m keeping in mind that Hamill didn’t like his script
much at first.

I hope the fans who hate it, hate it because of deaths or
cherished characters gone “wrong”.

I could see myself getting annoyed by the jokes if they
really are crappy, it I’m really looking forward to it
after all!

yeah that's a vast space to be in, I think the issue with
any new permutation of star wars is that it has too much
nostalgia and expectation to live up too. I think everyone
has there own personal idea of what should have happened to
luke, han etc.. So they are invariably disappointed when the
film doesn't match their expectation. I suppose its good
that the opportunity is there for me to go the cinema every
Christmas from now on with my friends or brother and see a
new star wars film. If It was up to me personally, I think I
would have not made any more films after return of the jedi,
I'm more than happy just to have those excellent films. One
of my issues is that if they explore ever facet of the star
wars mythos from now on, it sort of takes away from the
background and mystery of the original films.

These new films are perfectly serviceable, but they seem to
retread to much in less interesting ways, the original films
did everything better with better, dialogue, style and
cinematography. The only thing better nowadays are the
effects, and even then I'm not sure the CGI is entirely
effective.

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2017-12-16 11:15 [#02540130]

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be overly critical, I
enjoyed the film for what it was, but it shows how good the
original films were. Is there anyone with charisma as Han
Solo in the new ones? No. Iconic as Darth Vader? No, snoke
is boring really. Its No coincidence by far the best moments
of this film is when Mark Hamill is on screen

ahhh this film could have been one and a half hour long. cut
out finn and rose subplot (keep their fight scenes at the
end). cut out every time they use a symbol like the metal
dice or the half moon symbol fucking symbolism. keep in all
the leia and luke scenes. add in a scene of luke trying to
get a shag out of rey.

the start with the lone x wing going against those cruisers
was stupid, as were all the times finn and rose surviving
stupid bullshit over and over when they should have died.

yes you mean when they were surrounded by an entire legion

finn and rose = bad, lazy writing
snoke = cgi cunt

the fight scenes were great, loved the sexual chemistry
between rey and ben, wonder if they like each other in real
life or if they hate each other like mulder and scully

Shes fit, shes a bit of a weird actress, some scenes she can
be good sometime she seems terribly wooden. I think some
scenes they should have done more takes of. General Hux was
acted really fucking badly, its weird cos that guy was good
