I have these last 3 months or so, through having to adopt the practice working for agencies, been taking advantage of gulp/grunt (pretty much same thing) and node.. things. So you have your packages like SASS compiler, js minifier, and live reload so you're not refreshing - it watches for changes in your files and does its.. magic. As to your specific query about CSS and looking things up - it is time consuming, I don't know, I'm still having to support at least IE9. The last job I "took over" made extensive use of flex-box which I'd not really used in CSS, and that caused headaches. I really don't know if there is a substitute for ... trying things out in Chrome Inspector, deciding to add that to the file, and then checking browsers and devices. Things take forever these days. I do apologise for getting personal and cross. I am very upset with what's going on but the answer isn't to widely sow blame or bark at pals. |

Don't worry about it, I know I am the worst sort of instigator, troll and needler. One thing I like about microthemer is it integrates CSS3 Pie which *apparently*, and I'll have to verify this for myself, helps old IE versions render properly. Mainly what I'd like to do is start out with something extremely bare bones like WP Underscores and use Microthemer to paint some style over it. I'm doing this for a small personal site, I don't think I need the earth moving tools you use. SASS looks pretty cool though, I like the nesting feature. |

For all the things in SASS, and you can really go silly-overboard with it, which I really don't agree with because your making things unintelligble, but nesting does make sense and is useful and is probably the main thing I use if for. That and being able to set a variable for something like a colour, or what they call "mixins" where you can include chunks of CSS you use commonly. But when it gets into BEM or something, I instinctively switch off and upset myself commenting on the news. |
