i don't think he's unable to do those rhythms anymore. i
believe this is the real progress, the godfather of fucked
up beats, this is what he rolls with. kinda makes it nearer
those with minor posssibilities

aphex was on an interesting tip with "untitled" and it was
brilliant hearing him expand on all those ideas in
"untitled," then reel it back in and clarify with "untitled"
and "untitled." i would almost say my favorite aphex track
is untitled, but untilted is still technically a title.
untilted is touring.

I know nobody particularly cares for my opinion, but I do
think now it's settled in, that this is my fav bit of work
by AFX, from the Syro onward period. It's got a feel of the
old Analogue Bubblebath eps, it's proper Aphex. I don't know
why I am typing this.

Thank you. Well. it has to be the first track "CHEETAH2 [Ld
spectrum]". Is there a Spectrum loading screen in it?
Science doesn't know. It's just so... moody in that tilted
RDJ-way. Just off.

It's hard to pin down quite what RDJ does that makes it
"Aphex". One recognises it when they hear it, but it's nigh
on impossible to emulate. I feel he is in the machine, and
as someone who knows him said, (I paraphrase) "he is a bit
of a dark lord".

He's in the machines.

you cant tell when its him, cos i think its very rare to
find someone who invests themselves so completely to making
music, he literally has just done it his entire adult life
and before, its sort of inseparable from who he is as a
person. as far as i can tell anyway I dont actually know the
man but thats the impression I get. yes CHEETAH2 might be
my favourite too

ld spectrum is so fukn surgical. every sq inch of it is
cared to

subsubbass fun for the last minute is a trip as well. top
notch ever done would be fun to hear out on a proper PA
sometime you think

cheetah2 stealthiest fukn buildup all time. jamming jammNng
minding own business then next thing know kneedeepen the
middle of the buildup track just surrounding you and have no
idea how got there

like wandering a bad neighborhod on headphones naive not
paying attentino then wake up and in some serious shit no
reckoleckion so ever

as i put on cheetah ep for the first time (finally) i am
thinking: well, yes, it's aphex, right? caustic window LP
gives us a barrier for when it's wandering off into wank,
and it's nice to have new stuff, that is clearly not wank.
but then i don't feel my universe shattering like elusive.
not quite good, but almost. rather good. getting drukqs in
2001 shattered my universe, sure, but we've been there; i'd
be surprised if that could happen that hard again. hearing
"synolvium" or whatnot by photodementia was really more
impressive than a lot of the new aphex. how many years have
we been hearing these roland cowbells? 20? 30? ...and here's
a guy doing something with 'em i've never heard before...
i'm just like: shit, there are things left to do? and it's
new but it's also dead simple. and the whole track is
beautiful. like an audio version of van gogh's starry night
-- the swirly stars are those roland cowbells, with the
parts that are dashes...

this is very aphexy so far. it makes a nice addition to all
the other aphexy i have, sort of: oh, yes, here's a version
of produkt 49 for when i've listened to produkt 49 a lot and
i want to hear it, but i'm tired of it, let's put on
cheetah7b instead. and it's just another version of
lairichard or phoentacid or whatever off anadruqks.

...dark lord? fukn surgical? are we listening to the same
thing? i mean, it's possible what.cd's top statistical
torrent for cheetah is a fan fake

then these are the same sort of people who are too into the
sanctity of their own opinions to enjoy ozric tents

It's just so... moody in that tilted
RDJ-way. Just off.

spend a month or three working on detuning your oscillators
in the right ways at the right times and you'll be less
mystified. i'm half convinced all his blather about
microtonal is a nonsense smokescreen for the ol... no....
no... little more... ok, yes. then the trick is not tuning
it to that spot, but knowing the spot exists and that it's
the one you want here and now. from there it's a whole
library that's essentially a language like the noises dogs
make -- dogs and i talk quite well, but i'll be darned if i
could sit down and chart out how it all works.

i was just musing this evening that the fibbonacci sequence
is behind it. bothering a dog in an optimal manner. you do a
left bop, then a right bop, then a right bop, then a left
bop, and you switch up your timing and bopping to keep the
dog surprised every time. then you get the haaaugh haaaugh
as the teeth come out a bit, but not in the im'a bite you
way. eventually it's too much, and the dog explodes into a
snare rush; nails across the wood floor. i bet aphex is top
notch at bothering dogs.
