The advert with that kid that's been going on for a few
years now had to stop.

I'm posting from jail.

sort of. he set things rolling in a new direction for me
when i heard ctd.
i bought some dub, drum n bass and prodigy before,
but discovered squarepusher, afx´s backcatalogue, µ-ziq and
many more through napster by tracks entitled
"ifyoulikeafxsquarepusher..." along came xltronic and
spoiled the rest of me .-)

yes. saw ctd on tv. bought vhs and icbyd. didnt liked icbyd
cause it was nothing like ctd. relistened it a couple of
years later. loved it. bought every single afx album i
found. once a month. thats all i listened during that month.
best musical time of my life. every album a new universe.
when no more afxs available i moved on to bogdan, ae, etc

Yes, I was 12 at the time too.

My brother played Vordhosbn to me after coming home from his
first trip to the UK in 2001. I found it all to be pretty
weird to be honest, but I guess it might be down to the
un-matured brain and crap Walkman headphones..

I was much more interested in em:t and Global Underground
during those early years.

aside from that...? blanked out til 3yr ish but me mam was
tape to tapeing '92 cheesy hardcore like the fairground
version of everybody in the place when i was about 7(?).

got into chem bros via dyoh (leccybank still the most
vomitous of sick) but likely a fair bit of jazz, biodadwise

with blame (jonny l yeh?), orbital in sides, sniv, first
heard alberto on some comp whilst getting into klf and orb.
swap tapes with clearly stoner art teacher, straight up
clocked greenwhiff 1st lesson. earliest tangerine dream was
proper abstract, affected my listening skills. um, plus
mucho bunnin round the corner here she comes, diane cluck +
jeffrey lewis (the river from dan (not dan c)), distillers
and fuckin shite whoever got hold of the stereo first. first
shag was in the art room red curtained to fuck to geogaddi.
got into van vliet, bukowski etc, will listen to pretty much
anything now, lots of ukhh + grime lately

No you can't really draw a hard line between Aphex and
everything going back to Throbbing Gristle and related, and
everything in the 80s post them, Kraftwerk, Voltaire etc.

idm? usually it's other genres that flow into it like a
cauldron. the progidy and moby's go/ambient, that sifted
into aphex/squarepusher. so it was on the coat tail of
techno/ambient that brought me to various experimental
artists. eh

As for electronica generally, I came via Jean michel Jarre
and Chemical Brothers before finding Orbital and then being
introduced to the Warp/Reflex repertoire by friends after
that

this is just my opinion and stuff:

* first three are sort of a box set to me
:: Experience was fast and experimental
:: Jilted was medium fast and more deliberate in
construction
:: FoTL there was a massive leap in tonality, sonic sheen
etc, curious why. but the songwriting was tight as ever

* Temper popcorn farted, I remember literally hearing the
moment of fart in the school computer lab. Prodigy was on
vacation yo

* AONO is sort of like if Wagon Christ's SIMYL album had
failed harder. That liam chap really should stick to his
roland W-30s and just reverse strings forever. Moving to
reason really watered down the quality and intensity. It is
not a bad album, though, and I do listen to it sometimes

* Invaders, the songwriting came back. I dunno if he went
back to the W-30s or just got better at Reason. Still not as
good as the first three.

yep
