The ones that try and teach you what art is tend to produce sheep. Schools can be useful to learn the history, basics, and also having successful artists coming for talks can broaden minds. I lived for 8 years with someone who was half blessed, half cursed by having been to a good art school. Some things were so deeply rooted into her mind that it blocked the child in her. A similar thing happens with musicians. Those who go to school, and become professionals clearly posses something incredible, but lack the spontaneity and childlike approach certain non-academic musicians have. |
