would be cool if they made him older with an "emperor voice"

He was so shit in the Star Wars films. So were the Ewoks.
And Yoda. And Chewbacca (what a wookie). In fact they were
all crap and George Lucas has murdered the film industry.

Mark hamill was just great in wing commander IV -The price
of freedom.
I think it's sad that now they no longer make
Cinematic/action games with great actors to play ingames
movies...

Yes, yes Meho that's what I meant. Ahem.

I love those great seventies films like Cuckoo's Nest, All
the President's Men, Deliverance, Midnight Cowboy, the
Godfather etc and sigh when I think of the legacy the Star
Wars films have left us with.

Its the old question of "If you could go back in time would
you kill Hitler before the Nazis rise to power?". The same
could be asked of George Lucas.

Those films aren't original. Their only originality lies in
ripping off kids on a massive scale with the shameless
marketing and tie-ins. A whole generation of kids have been
shafted by that bearded bastard.

The old good vs evil concept? Yeah, very original. Besides
those Ewoks can be found in the darkest valleys of south
Wales. Just ask anyone who works for the National Trust or
Forrestry Commission. Pesky things.

lucas just repackaged old stories and gave them new design.
Not any worse than all those western movies with cowboys and
indians but success of these movies shifted the emphasis
within the industry from the "traditional" art values
(story, acting, characters...) towards special effects and
design and that gave us the last 25 years of unbearable
cinema

It's not Lucas fault that others make crappy movies.
He had a vision and made it happen , giving the audience
something they had never seen before.

Im talking about the original trilogy here not the later Jar
Jar binks horror.

I think it worked....

I dont mind what's going on as long as I'm entertained.... I
know the content of the movie will be effects and stuff, so
I go and see it for that... If I wanted to watch something
violent then I'll watch something else. He hasnt done
anything wrong, he's just done what he wants to do in the
film making industry for other people to watch and comment
or enjoy.

No harm in that. Thats my oppinion

In all seriousness, I like Star Wars and Empire. Jedi is OK
and Episode 1 is atrocious. What I am getting at is what
Meho said. They opened the doors for the crap we've had
since; the blockbusters. They lack substance and are
ruthlessly marketed to wrangle our hard earned money out of
us. Special effects don't make a good film. They don't even
offer anything on an aesthetic level.

I've not bought any star wars merchandise. So He's not had
any of my money cept the fee to see the film and to buy the
games I enjoy playing. I dont know what your getting at. If
you get rid of all those films, the choice wouldnt be there
for the people who do enjoy them.

I agree.
Im not much for special fx movies either but Lucas used the
fx to tell a story not the other way around.
I think the new LOTR movie suceded in that to wheres movies
like Matrix or the Mummy is just an excuse to show of what
they can do with theyre expensive computers.

exactly. And This is not to say that Lucas is evil because
of his intentions but because of the consequences of his
deeds. As Nietszche said: "We should be judged by what we
do, not by what we wish to do" (actually I made this quote
up from a longer paragraph of his). I'm not passing a moral
judgement, as usual, I'm just being practical. Lucas did
create new way of thinking for the industry and i do not
hold him responsible for plotting to do so, but going back
in time and erasing what he did would be just a hygienic
act, not moral.

some one else would have done it anyways .......
but much later Lucas was ahead of his time.
