Nigger is the misspelling of the Latin word for black. Negro is the Spanish word for black. Normal people used to use the word nigger as a friendly nickname towards black people. I can guarantee that every black person that I know would be deeply angry if you referred to them as a "nigger". The meaning of words comes from their use - it is redundant to point to what historically a word meant. You can't claim "gay" doesn't mean homosexual or, more recently, "lame" because it originally meant "happy and carefree" (doubtless down to the Jews again). One thing that annoys me about this (apart from it's obvious trolling) is the obsession some internet based, young white men keep fucking harping on about their right to use the word "nigger". I said, retard, that words meanings comes from their use. So whilst Niger was apparentlly Latin for black, and possibly just that, it now (or its derivative) means something different - no one says "nigger" meaning "the colour black". So the argument is bullshit. So with gay, what originally just meant "happy", now means homosexual. Or young (and not so young) people use it to mean "lame". The difference here is you can still use the word for its original meaning "happy" (though you'd be communicating a fair dose of campness as well") - though it would be difficult to seperate the "lame" meaning from the idea that homosexuality is defective and lacking. |

I agree it is a divisive term and I don't personally believe it's helpful. It makes me uncomfortable, it's setting up an "us and them" mentality. It's insulting to other black people who wouldn't use the word like that. But let's not place too much store by something that's perpetuated by the Media and mainly a proportion of young males. I hope white British people,as a whole, are not judged on the behaviour of the more loutish elements in society. I imagine most people, that do in general get along, would rather this word would go away. I don't think anyone saying it is being helpful. As polite, well meaning citizens, I think it's our duty not to be insensitive and insulting. Hi, I would like to publicly apologize for passing on this meme in the past. I seem to have immitated this from GNAA and possibly pulp fiction to support or at least immitate the larger and strange memeplex of trolling. Trolling could have just been an astroturfed political psyops catalyst, as a sort of tool to slap people awake and rabble rouse. Weev seems to oddly be a "good guy" though a very mischievous one.
