these are very cool

artwork based on the waveforms of classic techno/bleep/rave
tunes - AFX, Squarepusher, Vibert, LFO etc.

eh. they're not distinct; all artists look the same. this is
like something warp's marketing department would shart out
on a rainy day. pass.

on the plus side, it has gotten me thinking about how i can
make a buck off of other artists' popularity.

i'm half serious, there are some good marketing 101 lessons,
here. he blathers on about his choice of cardstock and
silk-screening as if it were something unique and amazing.
it's sort of like how the waiter will blather on at a fancy
restaurant, dropping all sorts of keywords designed to make
you react more positively to the food: "Silkscreen printing
is a traditional, versatile technique" ... "minimise the use
of natural resources and were the first screen printers in
the UK to use 100% solvent-free water-based inks"

what is this, fucking whole foods? no, this a printout of a
computer FFT algorithm sent to a local printshop

you want to impress me, do some escher lithograph carving
that actually represents the music in a way that isn't "the
computer generated this and it look kinda cool"

we also have: favorable quote blurbs from celebrities, a
"limited edition" air to drive impulse purchasing, and
deftly targeting a specific market segment.

"deftly targeting" a tiny underground music scene in which
he also happens to be a fan of the music. i doubt this is a
cynical moneymaking enterprise, lol. i'm sure doing Daft
Punk prints would be easier...

as someone who also runs labels and does projects like this,
i can tell you this isn't the scene to target if profit is
what you're after! :-)

but hey ho, there's always cynics i guess.

same bloke also made this

that looks much better.

this is still crap, though. essentially lifts warp's design
aesthetic and drops in a waveform styled like a k-hole. if
not for the "IDM" angle, would you have bought this? even
given it a second thought?

if it looks good on your wall and you're happy with the
price, well, god bless. i just can't stand the bullshit some
days, u noe
