*orange ducks with strips : )

Thanks epics, hope it wasn't to difficult to render that out
on your PC.

you rule. :P

you're welcome, freqy!!

the biggest issue was i could barely even tell how things
were syncing up once i started dropping in gurner clones; it
lagged out massively. so i just followed the bursts in the
waveform

thanks for fixing it epic!

hey epics, have you heard of placeholders?

its where you take a low bit rate copy of a video track (
one the computer can handle) and then you edit with it. Then
just before you do a final render/export you replace the
placeholder/s with the full frame lossless codec files and
render.

it cuts down on the glitchey. slugish repsonse and headaches
on slow pc's.

i use quicktime animation codec allot . its very good
indeed. in fact i can use QT animation codec for
placeholders ( by lowering the percentage down ) or even do
a final render with it as it is awesome at 100 percent.
then i convert to divx for net.

freqy : )

that makes me wince. knowing premiere, if i did that, all
the files would be gunked up, out of sync when i replaced
them, and then i'd just have to do it all over. differences
in framerate, aspect ratio, resolution, sampling rate, what
the heck ever. or, it'd shart out, fail to replace the
files, and i'd still have to do it over. you can do a
preview render, but my pc is slow enough to only bother with
small chunks. honestly, i hate the stupid app, and i am
really glad i pirated it. i've yet to find a proper editing
suite; one that has things as far as after effects. is avid
any good? that's one of the few i've not tried yet.

it also crashes a lot. sometimes it destroys me shit and i
have to reset the preferences and rearrange all the GUI
widgets with the ghastly awful docking mechanics. it insists
on loading my VSTs even though i almost never use them in
video editing. but nothing else has all the features in
there. drives me mental.

honestly, your idea makes less and less sense the more i
consider it. what kills my box is the giant 720p video,
applying the video effects to that, etc.

if i use a tiny, non-720p clip, it will be out of scale when
i replace it. if i use a shit quality 720p clip, it will be
just as slow, and busy itself processing glitched pixels
instead of clear ones.

this is even worse than your overclocking idea, i'm afraid

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2013-04-14 11:14 [#02453868]

it's also possible that premiere is a big, complicated,
poorly-explained mess, and i'm missing something obvious.

offline freqy on 2013-04-14 19:10 [#02453877]

oh you..........

Always with you it cannot be done... Here you nothing that i
say?

I do this in premiere.

keep the same pixel aspect and extension and codec but lower
the bit rate of the file whilst editing. Then when y done,
change the files to the highest rate you can.

so whatever video file your using from your camera or clips
from teh nets,
before you start in premiere convert your clips to two
files, a high rate and a low rate .avi or .mov (say 40
percent and 100 percent)

edit in the low , then render in the high.

preview in premiere is like going to the post office.

shame your to scared to overclock your PC too.

so how's that pan out when all the shit pixel noise causes
you to set all the chroma keying wrong? do you make after fx
compositions with low quality clips? is it easy to replace
them in that case?

i'll give it a shot, but i figure it'll be a ruddy mess
unless you're doing something simple like editing up a
vacation film... but i'm using a bajillion graphical
filters, and that's what's lagging me out. already have the
preview quality bottomed out...

i already did overclock it (see other thread). shame your
reading comprehension is less than stellar. a much better
suggestion would be to upgrade the RAM and switch to an SSD
(which i've already done).

I know, you said your PC isnt overclocked.its back on
default and you cant be bothered to speed it up again. You
want quad core but cant afford. mainly cant be arsed and as
you were scared to fry the CPU . Even though I told you of a
great monitor prog for the temps = realtemp, exe. Anyway you
gave up with that idea, saying it was my idea, even though
hundreds of thousands of people do it. which is where i got
the ideas from ( 10 percent overclock is a real benefit. but
as you call it : a little bump is of no use)

so i give you another common idea people use when they have
a really ...really sh*t PC'. to use lower bit rate files !!
but you hate that idea too.
even though you've never tried.

why not just lower the bit rate by 20-30 percent with quick
time animation codec . see how much quicker premiere works.

i am just giving you ideas that do not require an upgrade in
hardware
as you said you cant afford an upgrade.

anyways, the answer is: i will buy a new PC in a month or
four, depending on my electric bills 'n' shit. and bitch and
moan until then

Premiere works very well with quicktime .mov files. even on
slow pcs.

just by converting to quicktime you may see a great
benefit.

program called "imtoo" does batch processing to quicktime
formats.

or get the latest quick time codecs and use premiere itself
to convert files to quick time.

i don't have the money now. i won't have the money unless i
put in extra time for it. and that's no fun, but at this
point it's less fun not to.

if you have an ssd that's really great.

why not upgrade your cpu and ram from ebay real cheap.

just slot the new bits in. : )

because i want to keep the old one together as an XP box;
still use some software that doesn't run in 7. you're really
talking out of your behind, duder. about all that'd be worth
carrying over to a new PC are the hard drives -- mobo can't
take a much better CPU, the FSB isn't terribly impressive,
and the graphics card is a cheap piece of shit.

i'd never buy parts off ebay, unless i were desperate. and
i'm not; merely lazy.
