Your mind

Lets say you want to take up a new hobby, change a habit or
do something you've never done before.
Suddenly your mind presents you with reasons, thoughts,
pictures and feelings which tell you NOT to do the things
you would love to try out.
The alternative however, wouldn't be less pain but a life
that is bascly unlived.

Strange. Your mind is working against you in some way, and
that means you will never get any satisfaction out of live.

Is there something in particular you want to do and what are
the reasons you are giving yourself for not doing them?
Personally, I really want to sign up to the local swimming
pool but my mind is telling me that swimming in other
people's filth and urine is gross and that I shouldn't do
it. Either way, staying home and playing Path of Exile
instead doesn't feel like a life less lived, it just means I
get less exercise. What is your motivation for trying a new
hobby or changing your habit?

What you are presenting to us here is the same thing you
have presented us all these years. You've become so confined
and isolated that you're too afraid to go out do things.
Nothing new here.

See, the exact reasons are not important. I also don't think
discussing those reasons are helpful because it would just
strenghen them somehow.
Lets just say they are there. Lets also say there are
uncomfortable feelings when you do certain things (youve
never done before), you somehow have to deal with them.

its true your mind can work against you, but not wholly.
Think of an addiction as a good example, you know that
smoking is killing you. But you rationalize it each time you
crave a cig.

These are just the reactions of neural pathways you build up
over time. Experiencing your life is the process of building
new ones.

I would also go further and postulate that you're more
likely to do things that end up being bad for you, rather
than good for you. Only cause the mind is susceptible to
'quick-fix' solutions (fast food, drugs, passiveness, etc).
You'll get temporary satisfaction instead of something
potentially fulfilling.

And thus the vicious cycle
