we'll talk about why we have given up on xltronic later but
for now you need to understand that youve had your faded
period and everything about this place is about a year away
from returning to relevance so keep that in mind and stay
alive.

im saying xlt's community is a very acceptable and unique
alternative to hyper socialised times where everybodies
collaborative opinion continues to make art more politically
correct and synchronised. they will eventually corner
themselves in terms of innovative/creative product. it will
be the lonely, unhappy, jaded, contrary and uncooperative
that will breed innovation. we just need a little bit of
energy

Context, context, context... .....and willingness to engage
in publicity of self. There is no necessity to engage in
the tech that results in publicity.

And the "virtual insanity" shit- it's just making obvious
the bullshit superficial nature of people; the masks that
most choose to live behind. Putting implications of
substance over actual substance. Taking implications as
truth. "Hey, he has a crown and wearing a cape, he must be
cool and special." Etc. This shit has been going on for
hundreds of years, becoming more and more refined. The
internet magnifies this by being able to wholly create
artificial personas, that don't even have to rest on
physical frames.

Trueness stands out much more because of this. We "in ze
underground" have complained for a decade about the flood of
mediocre and shit electronic music, due to easy tools, etc.
However, this has actually magnified the actual quality
artists, and unfortunately, has maybe made clear that some
artists who were once awesome, weren't actually doing much.

There is nothing to fear. Ever. Just be. Just be the
self. That being said-- there is a reason that I put
various birthdates and living locations on ze web. No need
for the borg to even care.

ok man i dont want to argue about the internet in this
thread more than happy to at some other time maybe. im
talking about xlt.

xlt is a disconnected dead place. will the ART that comes
out of the hivemind be what we XLTRONICS want? its probably
not. if its not what we want then something can be done cos
we are lucky this place remained disconnected.

but if we cant see things that way then we should all just
move to facebook with our art and let it inevitably blend
with other peoples ideas and plateaux at a basically
unexperimental level.

so theres my argument on why this place isnt dead and is
infact one of the few places we can brew innovation. ykno
possibly

we'd be happier if we rekindled braindance. aphex didnt make
his sound by super socialising which is why it was a sound
of its own. it was a very HUMAN sound that championed
DARKNESS and gave it energy and optimism. you recon we can
do the same thing?

lol, love that stack of videos ampi.

while loner tendencies certainly permeate the mood of
braindance, i don't think it's immiscible with being social.
it's more you need to put in serious hours to get anywhere,
and if you lead an active social life + have a job you don't
have as much time to get deep.

to this end, i think the internet is a good thing for this
sort of music. you can catch up with friends online while
taking a 5min break from making a track as the kettle
boils.... schedule a real interaction for the weekend
without being bothered by a ringing phone... etc.

yeah of course man. aphex was on the net in contact with
lots of dudes as was the entire beginnings of the braindance
peoples. they were still people in the dark experimenting.
none of this cloud stuff.
im not really suggesting a big change. im trying to remind
this place that it's relevant and ought to readdress its
lack of energy. the death of our little scene was a bit of a
bizarre myth honestly, but now that mid 90s sounds are going
to come back and over socialised times are going to make
people step back from the current approach to art it really
is less dead than ever.
- we should start powering up.

the cloud stuff is great for the handshake jockeys -- the
people in bushwick trying to promote a DJ night. your event
gets "likes" and this is like a video game score. everyone
wants the high score. lots of circle-jerking within that
crowd; i'll-like-urs-if-you-like-mine. at level 2, you can
get your following to like someone else's thing, and this
gives you more weight to swing around.... they are like
pufferfish.

all this is really unrelated to "experimenting," as you put
it. it's the marketing department; we're all in the
R&D/engineering wing. i think this is what you're annoyed
about: it's easy to log on facebook and get bummed -- "look
at all the twats going to this chap's DJ night! art must be
stagnating." but it's not, really. most of those guys will
be gone in ten years, having gotten too old to party and had
kids 'n' shit.

thing is, they aren't the only ones on facebook, just the
loudest. there are plenty of small communities like xlt on
there, too. for example, one i was involved in lost its
message board (artist pulled it) and so someone made a
facebook group to replace it....

this board is like an old tree; the roots go deep and
members from a decade ago occasionally resurface. that's the
wealth.... without that, this place WOULD be dead.
