You know, after listening to it for a few weeks, I'm
beginning to feel that SAW85-92 is Aphex Twins best album...
sure, a couple of the tracks towards the end aren't that
great, but tracks 1 to 9 are downright amazing... and
Delphium is another good one... I love this album!!!

plus, I find I can listen to it any time... I find it very
relaxing, moreso then SAWII, but I find most of SAWII to be
pretty boring... whereas this is just great!!!

I've said it before and i'll say it again, his best album
IMO is the mighty Come To Daddy. But if you won't count it
as an album, i'll say SAWII.

yeah, I love ICBYD... I really do... but SAWI is just really
special imo... everything about it... I even find the static
in Tha kind of adds to the synth effect... I dunno, I just
think it's great... ICBYD would move to number 2 in my list
now I guess...

I just haven't been able to fully get into SAWII... some of
the stuff is brilliant no doubt, but other stuff just seems
boring to me, and monotonous... over the summer I'll have to
give it some work...

Heliosphan was my first real Aphex Twin song I loved, and I
first heard it about a year ago... and now it's still one of
my favorite songs of his... along with the whole album...

Just popped ICBYD into the cd player actually, I'm gonna
stay in tonight and smoke some nice herbs... Acrid is
playing, I'm seriously in love with this track, if it ever
leaves me I'll perish for sure

i like saw85-92, but it's hard for me to get into. it just
seems kind of poppy to me, i don't know. except i do like
green calx alot. i don't want to say rdj album is my
favorite because it's makes me feel like a poser, but i
think it is. girl/boy song makes me want to cry.

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2002-04-14 07:03 [#00173530]

drukqs has more excellent tracks than on any of his other
albums, but the good/not so good track ratio isnt that good,
if you know what i mean. but id still go with drukqs for
the best aphex album.

I was actually crying with Schottkey, when I broke up with
an ex... but I was a smallie...

For me SAW85-92 has all the feelings. Its an album with a
great psychic power

i actually am gonna admit it and say I hate saw85-92, its to
housish and cheazy, the sounds are very boring. my favorite
is without a doubt druqks. with sawII coming in a close
second

The whole Aphex Twin Saga started with SAW85-92 for me...
never found this album especially boring...

SAWI and 'On' Single. ICBYD would be third.

ICBYD and RDJA are simply not ambient... I just love his
SAW85-92 ambient

it is sooo god dammit sweet and mature!!!!!!!!

offline CORTEX from Canada on 2002-04-14 07:28 [#00173565]

saw 85-92 sounds like his less mature album to my ears.
some tracks actually sound like he was 14 when he wrote
them. but it's the only aphex album that some of my
friends, who arent electronica/idm listeners at all, dont
mind listening to. that's why i think it's his best album
for the uninitiated.

offline Tasos from Athens (Greece) on 2002-04-14 07:32 [#00173569]

for me SAW85-92 is enough minimalistic to be named mature;
it is creating absolutely fabulus atmospheres in my mind and
in general is one of the dreamest rich albums... dunno... it
was the very first rich album i got...

I got started on SAW 85-92 and I still think it is awsome...
but when I got a few more of his CDs I started to like it
all... but Id still have to say that SAW 85-92 is his best
work... because he started it in my birthyear... lol...

rdj for me!

too me icbyd sounds like a collection of songs, and rdj
album, saw I and II, come to daddy, and even drukqs sound
like a album instead of a collection of songs.

SAW85-92 is a killer, one of my all time favourite albums,
and probably THE album that got me hooked on aphex and
thereby the entire electronica/idm genre.

still, as rich's best album, i'll have to say RDJ Album. my
only complaint about it, is that it's way too short.

ICBYD is also amazing, sort of like an orchestral
trip-hop'ish thing in my mind...still soothing and
brilliant.

agree with d-hex; when you look on the backside of ICBYD,
you notice that the tracks span over several years...not as
cohesive maybe as his other albums, but still marvellous.

I've never really thought about what I think is Richard's
best album, I think they are all excellent and I know that
if I selected an album I thought would be best I'd probably
change that all the time. Listening times and moods would
change my ideas. Having said that though I'd probably say
ICBYD with SAW85-92 in a close second.

And BTW, since this is a mile-stone post for me I'd just
like to say a few words :)

Thank you all for interacting with this site and coming
together to create the only messageboard I've ever really
stuck with. Thanks to PhobiaZero and TuneMX for creating it
all, the moderators for moderating it all :) And most of all
Richard, for making music that I think is the best. Thank
you all!! =D
