Live @ Barbican

It is a month or so old now, but this is good enough that
its worth potentially making a second thread for.

Pretty, fucking, good.

pretty interesting that he has the piano out of tune;
reminds me of the out of tune synths in analord (most
prominently in "home made polysynth")

thanks for the link

jesus, been listening to this track all day. It's so
fucking wonderful... All the creaks and rope sounds are SO
GOOD. It feels really reminiscent of Raising the Titanic
(Big Drum Mix) from 26 mixes for cash

rope = lfo = simple harmonic motion

inverted + noninverted microphone signals = phase effects

just guessing

I heard the pan pots on the main sound board got stuck and
they had to improvise at the last minute.

It's nice to see stuff like this. Nothing quite beats real
mechanical movement. Stand near to a Leslie speaker and it's
amazing. In fact I wonder what a Leslie on ropes would be
like...

Great track, maybe someone will release it after Richard D.
James' death, cause it doesn't seem like he's ever gonna do
it himself -_-

You'd probably get sucked in to a rip in the fabric of space
time or something equally IDM.

The swinginig is sort of causing the out of tune tones

no, the doppler isn't as strong as the out-of-tuneness.

A piano, for most of its range, has multiple strings per
key. One reason out of tune pianos sound so eerie is due to
simultaneous resonance of multiple strings which are
supposed to have the exact same pitch but are slightly off.
(note also that all of these strings would get doppler'd the
same.)

Since rdj's midi piano is a modification of a regular piano,
it'll have these regular strings.

due to the analord tuning, i suspect he had it this way on
purpose (though laziness may have also delayed tunings..)

i wasn't too impressed with this track (but then again i
think rdj should have quit after drukqs (or maybe with
because it wasn't that relevant, but still cool and
everything))

I swear i heard some effect since the effect is gone on the
points of where it is about to swing in the other
direction.

Might well be just me though.

I think I hear a little bit too, but! I'm trying to have an
internet argument about aphex twin deliberately setting
things out of tune! There is little discussion about this
regarding analord and it brings me great sadness.

Oh well, this tuning issue will continue to be some sort of
lost rave for me.

Good observation, I thought the exact same thing re: raising
the titanic. The ambience of the track sounds very similar.
I like the track, best thing he has done since Bwoon Dub for
my money. It'd be 7/10 without the moving, 9/10 with.
