I hit up Lost Theory festival in Croatia a week or two ago
with a mate, and caught one of the best acid sets I've seen
in quite some time. The festival was in title a psytrance
occasion, so naturally, going over there we had minimal
expectations for the music; the trip was more driven by the
location, and the window for general festival ribaldry. And
the voyeurism/slagging opportunities that would no doubt
avail being amongst some hippies. In light of this it was a
total surprise and complete treat to find ourselves walking
back to our tents after a night of festivities, and
gradually being engulfed by an uptempo'd Rushup i Bank 12
coming from some Funktion Ones on a wee stage, which
followed into Cilonen and then a tonne of some similar
calibre acid which I've not heard of before. This was
enhanced by the fact that there was just a one-man-(sitting
on a tree stump)-audience, who was promptly joined by us.
Acid Kirk was the DJ, and he threw out a hell of a set
coupled by a wonderfully fun stage presence. By the end of
the set the sun had risen over a mountain behind the stage,
and Kirk came and had a lovely chat with us over a joint.
The joint unfortunately went out in his fingers amidst his
monologue of how wizened he's become on his musical
pilgrimage, but his allocution fizzled out with it after an
only slightly obnoxiously long while. Despite the need to
impress, he was a lovely guy with some impeccable taste. I
didn't have the wit at the time to find out what the other
shit he threw into the set besides the AFX stuff was, though
I did find an alrightish tune of his own on t'internet. Big
up Acid Kirk
