the internet has destroyed us

we have seen too many places we will never go to

we have seen to many opportunities that we will never have

we have seen so many things we will never do

it's pretty sad when you think about that everything you do
there will be always someone who has done it before and/or
is probably better than you

so why do anything at all if it won't satisfy your desires

amen to that

but you can always be the best you

theres never been a better you than the best of you

theres noone arround that can be you better than you

thats confusing,
but i guess you get what i mean...

there is not really any point in being the best of you as it
doesn't really matter

the only true way to happiness is consumption in all aspects

well, you said that 'everything you do
there will be always someone who has done it before and/or
is probably better than you'

but only you can really do what you do,
so you just need to find what makes you different,
and take it to the limits...

if you have nice legs, wear short skirt!

why d'you need to be the best anyway?

my happiness resides in the creation process,
feeling me doing nice things,
not in the result.
i dont need to be the best,
i just need to feel im doing the best of me i can.

that's the whole problem

creation is bound to a receiver. a musician needs a listener
as much as a seller needs a buyer

so if there is plenty of stuff to buy, listen to, watch
which is definitely of better quality then it doesn't really
make sense to throw in your own mediocre stuff. it just
makes finding quality stuff much more difficult. think about
netlabels

even more - consumption allows to give money to those who
deserve it and make more good stuff

offline melack from barcielwave on 2012-07-13 13:35 [#02437426]

well, i have just heard some of your tunes,
but they are fucking high quality,
and, if maybe you consider they are not the best,
im sure you could easily get listeners,
even get some live audience
and go places youve never been to play live...

i think you are being quite too pesimistic about all this.
ive also had similar feelings,
we are used the 90s IDM, where every artist and every album
was better than the previous, new and mindblowing. but i
think it has changed now, and its all more about the fun and
good sound (what you have) than anything else

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2012-07-13 14:10 [#02437428]
Points: 8670 Status: Lurker

a real artist can deliver consistent quality which i don't
have. i have a few good tracks but there isn't even enough
material to make a demotape or even open up a soundcloud
account or anything

that's mostly due to the fact how frustrating making music
is in general (at least with a computer). really after so
many crashes, data losses and different random shit i not
only grew tired but also got some weird phobia imagining
that something will fuck. you cannot imagine the angst i had
after dozens of hours spent on your remixes when fruity
loops suddenly started to crash at exporting it. i was at
the verge of crying. the only thing that really rescued the
situation was that the track was based on only samples and
only on stock floops effects and i could easily export it to
my laptop and finish it. but srsly what the fuck.

besides that, not taking part in some bigger project or
making some track exclusively for someone else i seem not
bothered in finishing anything, having dozens of single
loops and sektches which will probably never be finished.

but yeah, i'm having quite some fun time gaming now. i
bought a lot of consoles never having any when i was young.
it's so much fun you know just put in a dvd and everything
plays right out of the box. no crashes, no shit.

Well, most stuff in the world is not to one's liking. You
could search for the ultimate mustard vinegar tarantula
sandwich, but you're not into that. The point being, the
things that stand out to you are of your interests. So
given that your daily time is limited, you have to choose
between eating the strawberry ice cream or lasagna if you
only have time for one. So eventually it's a matter of
prioritizing likes to the most important and interesting
ones, which will determine one's ideal time management.
It's not a game of doing muthafuckin' everything- it's a
game of choosing what you most want, then going after that.

for new electronic artists to become moderately recognized,
it's 100x harder than it would of been in the late 90s >
because too many bedroom artists can produce high quality
audio with very limited equipment, and as a result it's
become massively saturated.

If you enjoy making music, you should do it purely for the
fun of creating something which is personal to you, your
friends and people like us on this forum, who are also very
enthusiatic about electronic music

your problem is a bit vague .. it seems like you wanted to
be a great artist but you have not achieved that because
there are other great artists? I think you need to look more
to your own individuality and your own proces, fuck the
others and what they have achieved. If everyone started
thinking like this we'd still be living in caves.

exactly! the day is just to damn short to do everything.

and that's the whole point. i'm basically right now doing
absolutely nothing for a few months now. well besides going
to work. but at home i mostly sit on my pc and refresh
facebook.

that's because i'm just really afraid that the things i will
choose to do will end up being "not worth it". like music. i
would do it if i had the guarantee that it will be succesful
or at least more people would like it.

if you want to make music deep in your soul., and you feel
your not really focused enough to know what to do to make
the music you want to hear. Search for some new plugins or
try a new vst synth , go to the engineering side hook some
stuff together in a new and unusual way, just learn a few
new tricks. Cause one weekend you may be right in the mood.
and you'll have all these new things to play with and you'll
have an awesome time. ....or you could make a cake thread.
lol : )

that everything has been said or thought. It's bullshit of
course.

so why do anything at all if it won't satisfy your
desires

To put it frank: this is more about having unrealistic
desires than anything else. Instead of refreshing Facebook,
you'd be better off working on having some realistic
desires. Ones that actually help you, instead of limiting
you.

It's not "100x harder than it would of been in the late 90s

just aspire to fame and wealth from a shitty effort. Post
something that is heart felt or don't post again. You
actually mean this right?

Sadist sounds like the person who is bothered by not being
able to go to mars. Mexico may be too mundane for his
tastes.

you have absolutely no idea about how much effort i have put
into music/living/etc.

of course i might be just a whinny bitch saying after 1
minute of practice that i will never ever learn to drive a
bike. but what would be the point in that.

but that is not it. but that's also not really where this
topic was supposed to go. of course i admit i derailed it
myself kinda.

my main point was basically that after watching people who
have grown up in times before mass media basically tend to
be happier with what they do/achieve as they have to match
it with a tiny fracture of people from their surroundings.
they didn't do a lot of things as they where never aware of
them in the first place.

also being somewhat "forced" to your close surroundings
people were much more dependent on each other which in the
end result heigthened the significance of certain
individuals. for example music - not having access to a lot
of it you would start to admire your local creative minds.

this is more a "antiglobalisation rant" and the feeling of
being very overwhelmed and powerless.

the whole problem for me personally is choice. being aware
of having a limited time given i would pretty much like to
maximize my life as much as possible.

being on a secluded island i would be limited to trying to
survive and stay sane, so my options would be rather
limited.

i believe that anyone has / had that particular feeling
having wasted a lot of time with something that just wasn't
worth it.

offline yann_g from now on 2012-07-15 22:39 [#02437619]

so what? and what do you want to "maximize" your life for?
remembering it when you're dead? i've had a rather shitty
life so far (well that's how i remember it) but i don't
worry too much about it, i worry more about the future than
about the chances i wasted. actually i am wasting my time
but i don't really think about it. maybe you should accept
that you're not who you want to be?

you say that your desire is to be the very best in some
field.

no wonder you're unhappy. this desire seems to involve at
least three of the cardinal sins: greed [because you want
maximal satisfaction and nothing less], pride [because you
want to have higher status than others] and envy [because
you don't want others to be as good as you].

Hey dude.

If it means anything..

I love you. I really do. I love you struggle, I love your
suffering, and if where it is, I love your triumphs.

You should just post the music you do have. Also, try not
to get to eaten up before you die, if you can.

The world isn't that grim unless nobody loves you.
