i argued things out with GWC over facebook. i came away from
it with this: rephlex is just GWC, they don't have any
staff, and it doesn't turn much of a profit. rather than
simply close doors, they've drawn down their release
schedule to almost nil. sort of like how a person's brain
gradually craters as alzheimer's progresses.

this is, of course, sad and painful to watch... but you
can't do a bloody thing about it. after a bit of sobbing,
you realize it's actually much better than rephlex just
being hit by a bus, unexpectedly dying before its time. this
way, we get a trickle of releases until rephlex finally
loses control of its bodily functions and spends the last
six months of its life chemically restrained on thorazine.

then riced out records picks up the torch and carries on for us
all

let's start a microfunding project to save rephlex records!

then we all at xltronic will own rephlex
and new records releasings will be chosen via woofie
polls...

you can't buy rephlex's love with riches. she's not that
kind of girl

xcellent electronic idea

that would be a donation well spent

if they wanted donations, they'd update the digital store.

Well the first part must be true (I mean, how could it be
any other way?). And sure, some releases are better than
none.

But they’re not at death’s door. The founders have
decades of life left and probably would like to keep doing
relevant and interesting work. It might not take the shape
you expect, but it would certainly be well in line with who
they are. I also imagine they wouldn’t object to turning
the kind of profit that would allow all of them to focus on
the task at hand, without losing a shred of their
(well-earned) integrity. Say what you want, but I know it
can be done, and I think it would be a lot of fun.

Anyway here’s hoping for no clouds during the transit of
venus tomorrow. Chance of a lifetime

loads of weird speculation in this thread. i wouldn't be so
pessimistic if i was you. magness is a lot closer to the
truth.

I never understand this attitude (YosepH's.. as in the
poster.. YosepH, by vibert, is golden).

I am happy to live in a world that's already had such
amazing releases by everyone at rephlex. They've already
made my life better. I am grateful for this; how could I
return the kindness with aggressive, greedy harassment for
more?

i don't think it's aggressive, greedy harassment for more so
much as it is people being used to instant access to
information. people expect to be kept in the loop, these
days. if rephlex got a twitter or a facebook or what the
fuck ever, and did a newsletter every six months (or
whatever) i think a lot of the gripers would calm down and
accept it. the ol' stonewall is considered a bit rude now

better a bogdan, an afx and an unknown new amazing artist
yet to discover once in a while ;)

offline melack from barcielwave on 2012-06-06 10:16 [#02435325]

anyway, rephlex will never die. they can always release a
couple of unreleased afx tunes and get some cash to keep
going...

they can even be released under a diferent alias and thatd
be enough, i think... (the tuss? 2 remixes, smojphace,
rephlexions with afx tune...)

i'm definitely willing to wait for mental union 2. i just
hope it comes out. it sucked checking ovuca.com and seeing
the dates change for release then eventually change to a
vague "Mental Union double CD is coming out on Rephlex!"

i think it would make sense for them to update the digital
store with anything that isn't released on vinyl (i.e. the
monolith cd)

Totally!

It initially said the release date was Dec 2011... It's
been pretty strange to try and keep track of

I am a old git. I have collecting rephlex for 20 years + I
think they release stuff too quick nowadays. I have 181
releases recs(71)+cds(110). Rephlex is the best label in the
world and I think there releases are getting more solid and
unmissable. up your arse feckers above ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have a theory young peoples ears are fecked up by using
mobile phones. All rephlex sounds great, mastering wise. I
am not being an audio wanker. honest. I have good regular
speakers.
