im loving reason since long time ago,
but i always thought it lacks some essential features like
:

- sound files import (dunno how tosay audiowave style,
because using a sampler for long files fucking sucks)

- external audio input (so you can process real time sound,
what i guess its difficult but it would fucking rule as im
using it for live sessions for time to time)

im using reason 4, so my question is if anything of that has
been included on newer versions, or just some new fx and
shit...

or just, whats new after 4 (i havent even used thor yet, too
many buttons :P) ???

Hi Rolf,
I haven't used it but I suspect the salt peter in the quench
enhances the colors because of the nitrogen. I doubt you
can achieve a deep hardening unless you keep the part in the
heat for a long time. I usually heat parts for 90 minutes
packed in bone charcoal.

best

Jim

Yes, it does have these things now. Check out
Reason version 6, which essentially now has Record built in.

thor is really great, you should get into that, i'm using
version 5 - the best thing is the things it throws at you
once you've connected a few machines together.

Reason 6 will do what you want. Audio import and/or audio
record. Big improvement imho.

Also, you can now directly record (and edit) into Redrum,
NN-XT etc., which is pretty cool. And for what it's worth,
Reason 6 = Reason 5 + Record 1.5 + 3 new effects.

thanks for comments mates,
i should definetly get into thor,
already tired / limited by malstrom and the simple synth.

just downloaded reason 6,
and i saw lot of new windows and stuff,
but im running in demo mode,
and i have to find out how to crack it now...
if anyone knows and wants to save me a net search,
just let me know! thanks

barcielewave gods punished me for spamming your thread and
my FL8 went mad today: whatever tempo I try setting it goes
back to 127bpm. dunno how to change it, perhaps a reinstall
is on the way. or perhaps I should try this Reason thingie

love,

robbie

It's absolutely superb in its current iteration (Reason 6).
I've been using Reason Duo since V4 (when record was new).
The stability and ease of self-containing tracks is worth
the lack of VST support, which is the only thing it doesn't
do that I'd like.

95% of all of my music is just done in Reason these days.
I've considered selling all my hardware as I don't play out
any more and I use it so little.

i definetly should, i bought 4 with a friend,
but now the friend is not friend anymore and he just kept
the programm...
anyway ive got no money,
and maybe propellerheads should be the ones to pay me for
making such great sound out of their software :D

+1. It's worth buying. I do have a grudging respect for how
long the ignition key dongle (which I fucking loathe on
principle) has managed to resist cracking. If someone makes
a cracked copy, I'll use it, just to free up the USB port,
but I'll still pay for future upgrades.

I'm off to the Reason 6 Masterclass in Cardiff tomorrow.
Anyone else going?

Quite good. I didn't really learn any new sound techniques,
but I learnt a couple of good shortcuts. Nothing that'll
speed stuff up huge amounts, but save 2-3 seconds a dozen
times a session, so worth knowing. Also a few minor
clarifications on CV control that had escaped my notice over
the year.

It was also interesting to get a few behind the scenes bits
of trivia on the Prop's approach to music software.

I was quite impressed by href="http://www.propellerheads.se/products/balance/"
target=_blank>Balance/a> too. It was the first time I saw it
in the flesh, but I didn't get to hear it through decent
speakers/headphones. The no-clipping option is very clever
and "clap a palm to your forehead" obvious when you know how
it works.

The other punters were a pleasant enough bunch too.

It was reassuring to see that even people who train people
in the software professionally occasionally try to plug ins
to other ins on the virtual patch bay too. I always feel
like such a retard when I do that ("Fuck's sake, how many
thousands of hours have you used this thing?"), good to know
everyone does it.

thanks for sharing, ceri!

what are those CV clarifications you got?
i think im not using it in a really effective/correct way...
i go mad with sync'ed LFO modulating engines parameters and
combinators, one of the things i love the most from reason,
but i guess you are talking about something different, isnt
it?

should get that demo too just to check, i've got v.5 (not
giving my serial number away, don't ask) and am still
recording with samplers. my next piece of gear will probably
be an HSS3i so i'll wait for reason 6...

Only little things like the "length" on a redrum channel
doesn't just refer to sample length, but also how long the
associated CV-out is triggered when that channel is hit.

Also learnt a couple of keyboard shortcuts, which turned out
to be a kick up the arse to make a (computer) keyboard
specifically for Reason, which I'd been meaning to do for
years (just has all the icons for the shortcuts on the
keys). Last one I did was for Re-Birth over a decade ago!

Have just set my Reason setup back up at home. It's
brilliant stuff, I no longer have "gear acquisition
syndrome" nor the desire to keep on learning new DAWs and
VSTs like I used to. I can do absolutely everything I want
in Reason*, now that I no longer have any real interest in
playing live. This means I spend vastly more time doing the
music and less doing the peripheral geeky stuff.

*Yes, I know Reason can be used Live and it's getting
even better for this with each iteration; it's just that
it's not really great for playing live, unless you're
proficient keyboard player/finger dummer, compared to say
Ableton Live.
