Yes, Big fan here.
i reallly really love him
Tom said he wanted to do something with massive attack sometime, because he liked their style and sounds.
Bone machine is another pearl.

Mule Variations and Rain Dogs (especially Singapore) all kick ass, i love Tom.
His voice is a boxer...thats been bruised by smoking and alcahol.
He strikes me as a guy who has a lot of stories to tell!!!

Blue Valentine is such a beautiful album! Amazing lyrics (in my humble opinion some of the best waits has ever written), wait's growl at its best my two fav tracks "Romeo is Bleeding" and "Wrong Side of the Road". I prefer waits in his soulful/poetic/slighty jazzy period to his more recent stuff.

Tom Waits is one of those artists I'll get everything by eventually.
Mostly right now I like his more recent theatrical / mutant cabaret kinda stuff over his older bluesy jazzy stuff.
First thing I got by him was The Black Rider which is still one of my favorites but is difficult to listen to - there's too much pain and horror and darkness there.

i for one can't explain really, the thing is also that his old stuff differs from his more recent stuff .. quite some different styles, i'd say just check some of his stuff..
from the newer albums i'd recommend 'Alice' and 'Mule Variations' .. there too much else to recommend, just try some, 'Rain Dogs' and 'Swordfishtrombones' or 'Blue Valentine'
see for yourself :)

The Piano has Been Drinking Small Change album greatest lyrics ever written
The piano has been drinking my necktie is asleep and the combo went back to New York the jukebox has to take a leak and the carpet needs a haircut and the spotlight looks like a prison break cause the telephone's out of cigarettes and the balcony's on the make and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking... and the menus are all freezing and the lightman's blind in one eye and he can't see out of the other and the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid and he showed up with his mother and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking cause the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler cream puff casper milk toast and the owner is a mental midget with the I.Q. of a fencepost cause the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking... and you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her and the box-office is drooling and the bar stools are on fire and the newspapers were fooling and the ash-trays have retired the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking not me, not me, not me, not me, not me

hes old, snobby, fussy bastard with pockets full of money taken from his gig's, which are boring, pretentious, ovverrated and way too much expensive. his music is cooked by several specialists just to make money, no ideology, no soul in it. hes too old to be sexbomb, and hes even too old to sign properly, his voice is mastered on all his albums, its very very shitty pop music, worst even than boysbands or stupid euro-techno.
this is what i think of him and his music, but if you disagree - well, its up to you.

truly inspired rambling courtesy of Tom this is accompanied by a sad sounding piano solo
The piano has been drinking my necktie is asleep and the combo went back to New York the jukebox has to take a leak and the carpet needs a haircut and the spotlight looks like a prison break cause the telephone's out of cigarettes and the balcony's on the make and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking...
and the menus are all freezing and the lightman's blind in one eye and he can't see out of the other and the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid and he showed up with his mother and the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking
cause the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler cream puff casper milk toast and the owner is a mental midget with the I.Q. of a fencepost cause the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking...
and you can't find your waitress with a Geiger counter And she hates you and your friends and you just can't get served without her and the box-office is drooling and the bar stools are on fire and the newspapers were fooling and the ash-trays have retired the piano has been drinking the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking not me, not me, not me, not me, not me
