I liked the man's "cameo" in Shrek 2. That was sly.

meh, couldn't find a topic on it, and didn't really want to
start a new one but...

I'm loving tom waits' 2002 album 'Alice'. particularly the
tracks 'everything you can think' and the short 'i'm still
here'.

i've always liked tom waits since my dad played me "the
piano has been drinking", but only recently started
listening to complete albums.

in one of my seminars at uni my tutor gave a small
presentation on tom waits and one guy in my group said
"what? this stuff sells?!" haha, that made me smile :D

Waits was excellent as Reinfield? in Dracula.

Drink some whiskey, put on Waits and read Charles Bukowski.

i once heard a song where he wasnt puttin on his voice to
sound like a goul, and it was alright you know.

once my friend played me some song of his:

me: wtf, it sounds like he recorded this in a barn,
using old leg bones as drum sticks

him:...well....he did record it in his chick coup

me:oh thats just fucking great. if he had a video to go
along with this im sure theryed be all manour of skelitons
shuffeling about in this chicken coup, and he would be
wearing a silly tophat.

sounds like something off of bone machine, maybe 'earth died
screaming'. great track

he sometimes records the room rather than the instruments
too, and it still sounds amazing. so much character in his
tracks.

Waits' voice is the proverbial 100 miles of bad road, but
you can't learn to sing like that. That cultivated gravel
texture is reminicent to me of old Satchmo himself and
nobody cold lay down a lyric like that man.

hah have you seen that new documentary about bukowski? im
pretty sure tom waits makes a brief appearance, silly hat
and all.

Really or are you fucking with me.

I haven't thought of Bukowski until this thread popped up.
I had a highschool sweatheart that turned me on to both
gentlemen and I'm about to swoon from the nostalgia...

You really shouldn't dismiss Waits untill you've given a
good listen while you are completely pissed.

the wierd thing is that its the exact opposite among most
people that i generally somewhat agree with musically.
i mean look at this thread.
infact i was surprised there were a few people saying he was
over rated.
i probably dont know one person that is roughly my age who
knows who tom waits is and doesnt like him.

oh and not only that. but its like everyone thinks that he
is like super super amazing. no one just likes his music.

You either love him or hate him.
