really cool

there's definitely something in it that reaches deep into
60s/70s psychedelia.

No artwork in the zip files, but at least they have track
titles, which makes a change for Bleep.

Not too impressed about the timeout limit on the 1GB zip
file though, that was so much fucking fun when mine failed
at 99%. Thank goodness for FlashGet.

so whats the difference between the 16 bit wavs and the 32
bits?

offline oscillik from the fires of orc on 2010-02-23 11:32 [#02368175]
Points: 7746 Status: Regular | Followup to nacmat: #02368174

i dunno, but there aint no 32bit wavs
there be 24bit ones
and i believe there is a difference of 8, if my mathematics
schooling is correct sir

offline nacmat on 2010-02-23 11:36 [#02368176]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker | Followup to oscillik: #02368175

yes my mistake, I was talking about the difference between
16 and 24 bits

Points: 7746 Status: Regular | Followup to nacmat: #02368176

there's a little more headroom for dynamic changes, i
believe. 8 bits worth

btw this is good, very good

no idea :-s bleep doesn't make sense sometimes, like
sometimes a WAV download will be more expensive than buying
the CD from them...even though it should actually be
cheaper.

and yes, i love this album very much. ilanders is fucking
genius

Thank you!

The difference is more than 8. With every bit greater than
16 the resolution doubles. The 24 bit one is far superior
but the trick is getting your PC to play it.

I've converted my WAV's into 24 bit FLAC's and I'm listening
with my old audiophile soundcard now. It's pretty sweet, but
to be honest I can't hear any difference, maybe if I was 4 I
would be able to compared to the MP3's - your hearing is
better then. At least I can sit here and know that more
sound bits are going into my stupid head.

i think you're getting frequency confused with dynamic
headroom - your age doesn't come into being able to
distinguish between 8bit / 16bit / 24bit, the whole age
thing comes into play with frequencies.

oscillik said: " like sometimes a WAV download will be more

should actually be cheaper."

Well, that's sweet for Bleep since most of the cds are
either out of print or out of stock! I was actually going to
take advantage of their ae back catalogue sale to replace
some of my worn out copies but they only have incunabula,
chiastic slide and the most recent albums. They don't even
have Confield in stock on cd!

Just listened to it in its entirety.

Sounds really good!! The only tracks I didn't like were
"known(1)", "0=O" and "krylon", but there's still time to
let everything soak in.

If I hadn't 99% given up actively listening to music I'd say
this was their best album since Incunabula and Amber, as it
is I'm a passive listener and if it's Jools Holland still
banging on about Big bands on Radio 2 or the bloke that
works next to me saying how he's got tickets to see
Stereophonics at O2 it's all just noise now.

ok then.

the one track that had me thinking 'this is great' is
Treale, but even that is only interesting for the first
minute or so. It just trails off to the same pling plong
nonsense found in the rest of the tracks.

All of this album except that beginning of Treale sounds
both forced and careless at the same time. amazing.

I must be very old fashioned for liking coherence and
structure in music. Confield has set the standard for a good
balance between chaos and order and each album since has
failed to keep that balance (although Draft is
tolerable/good).
