Angel from Home and Away? What is that? OH yeah, I'd be
glad to hear some impressions about Lost Highway too.

Home and Away is a really cheesy Aussie soap, like
Neighbours. One of the actresses in the film was from this
show.

yep i loved that film... just saw it last week and its
pretty easy to undersatnd really..... without detracting
from it there are a lot of skewed-timeline, abstract,
hyper-reality films out now so.... we are becoming used to
it in our collective conciousness. Beckett did all this
years ago with theatre of course - it ain´t a new idea...
(same with novels)

can't see why ppl liked "memento" so much. I found the movie
quite annoying myself. But right mulholland drive is a good
movie, sadly not the greatest thing I've seen lately but
thanks to the excellent music and the artistic shots it
kinda makes up for the seen it all before story

My take on this, and question to you guys, for those who
"understand it" how can you be sure that is the way it was
meant to be understood?

My favorite part in lynch movies is the funny guy who was
the strange director in Mullholand drive. He was in blue
velvet as well, and i know ive seen him in other lynch's as
well. He always has some short, strange part. Like clapping
his hands and saying "I'm Bill" (or was it bob?) in Blue
Velvet. Oh, i think he was the mechanic in Lost Highway too,
i forget. Strange guy, anway.

i didn't get mulholland drive at all. there was on the dvd
lynches 10 clues to unlocking the movie.. so i looked at
them and then i looked at the film but: what has the club
silencio to do with anything? what has the man and the
monster behind the cafe do with anything? where can i see
the rope and what does it mean?

offline MrGerbik from United States on 2003-05-30 01:53 [#00720634]

Mush: you're talking about Jack Nance, once of Lynch's best
friends (clapping his hand in BV; one of the mechanics in
LH, Pete Martell from TP, Henry from Eraserhead). But he
was not in Mulholland Dr. He died a few years before it was
made.

damn... don't do that...
a big part of the fun is to watch the movie, and analyze it
yourself...
Do it... it's usually a lot easier if you watch it with
friends and discuss it...
Oh, and of course, it's easier if you've analyzed movies
before or know how Lynch uses symbolism...

I'm still looking forward to the day I've got enough time to
analyze it properly (completely)... hope it'll be some day
soon, has been a while since I watched it, but I really like
it.

offline MrGerbik from United States on 2003-05-30 04:33 [#00720700]
Points: 392 Status: Lurker

Those links are for the people who have watched it and come
to a board saying "I dont get it. What does this mean". It
doesn't hurt to gather some of the basic theories in these
cases.

Many people can't see how Lynch does his thing, and don't
know where to start. It's easy for those of us who know how
DL likes to tell his stories.

offline MrGerbik from United States on 2003-05-30 04:37 [#00720706]

Once you get a good idea of what's going on, watching it
again is where all the fun is at ;)

yeah...
I have not seen Lynch's "ereaserhead" yet... that bugs me.
It does seem like an interesting movie.

Analyzing movies is just great fun if one knows how to do it
(which can be taught just by trying/practicing I guess), but
if you don't yeah I guess thoose links could be really
valuable as Mulholland Drive is a really nice movie, and
becomes even nicer when you know what it really is about...

My god this is freaky.

I just saw it for the first time an hour ago, and I was just
going to start a new thread on it...but there was already
one there!!

Freaky, freaky, freaky.

Loved the movie, too. Excellent unnerving atmosphere,
confusing, sad, just brilliant cinematography. :)

wow. i really dont get how some people dont get this movie.
its weird, it makes all the sense in the world to me. in
fact, i think its FAR more down to earth than some of his
more famous works.

I love the movie, and it has a particular meaning to me.

But at the same time, I think The Straight Story is a great
film. It does the same thing with conveying messages that
should not be articulated.

To the people that say that they can tell you what
Mullholland Drive is about, I would either say that you
either didn't get it, or you're far more articulate than I
can ever hope to be.

I hear ya jonesy,
I noticed Billy Ray and Angel,

just like "The Lost Highway" , lynch always seems to be
able to get some great, hmmm well lets say interesting
actors in to appear in cameo roles. It certainly seems to
add to the whole trippyness experience, that's for sure

btw it was great to see richard pryor in The Lost highway,

I've only seen it twice, but I love the little people scene.
After seeing weirdness for, what seemed like 3 hours, this
thing just elevates the movie to ultra weirdness. I loved
it!

I remember the chick wanking off, she's in another great
movie, The Ring. It's like she's hate-masturbating :D
