video game consoles are not upgradeable thus meaning once
the maximum performance of the machine is top it cant go
further.

Computer for the win.

Plus the entire modern game industry found out its more
profitable to make games with no replay value so you
constantly have to buy new ones.
The old arcade profit model was quarters, so they had
incentive to make them hard and fun. Now they just make
guitar hero clones and sports games that are the exact same
game only with different team members or something. But its
not their fault because they're just reflecting the fail of
all the consumers.

i like that on a console you can just put the disc in and go
straight into a game with a bunch of people with working
mics and have a good time, with no setup or installation or
extra programs needed.

PC is best game console, there is no limits. You can connect
projector, joystick, super duper audio system you can crack
even modify game you want. You can even create your own
game.
Game console 9/10
PC 10/10

I'm sure its pleasing to upgrade your PC with the latest
video card which is then obsolete months later, sounds like
fun.

I'd much rather sit on my comfortable couch with my PS3
hooked up to a 42" LCD tv and surround sound. Sitting at my
computer doesn't quite cut it for playing games.

With my newly built PC, running Windows 7, with a spec
exceeding the minimum for GTA IV, the latest version of GTA
I can actually play is San Andreas. In 16 bit colour. If I
was a big games fan I'd get a console tbh

True, but all PS3/360 games and all PC games maxed out are
still disposable compared to 640x480 Super Mario Galaxy.
Ultimately it's all about the games, which is why the
console war drama is useful. Scary to think what would
happen if they didn't exist, most devs would make no money.

Haha we're dealing with another generation #2 i see.
Consoles = constant performance, PC = variable performance,
since you do all kinds of shit with it other than play
games, and you need to maintain it yourself, and you -need-
to buy a new one anyway in 3 years time or so because it'll
just drain it's pipes. And if you're good at electronics,
consoles can be in fact upgradable, so, no, i don't agree
with you, but that's also because i care much more about
gameplay than graphics.

Consoles are good for only the fact that they are convenient
and easy to understand.

You cant upgrade consoles hardware so easy (for example
change GPU, you have to change buses to widen rate of
information transfered between individual system parts and
etc). You have to be rocket scientist for that.

So PC wins.

Except, PC doesn't win when new games stop working on your
system 6 months down the line, because you have to upgrade
again...

Until you can play Metroid Prime 1 on the PC, consoles win,
emulation is cool and all but it is also a pain since most
games aren't perfectly emulated 100%.

consoles are good for fighting games and racing games (and
some sports games). That's pretty much it, everything else
is clearly better on the PC--- especially anything that
requires you to aim.

So let me get this straight, PCs are worse because they
actually display real developmental progress in short
periods of time? I mean, that is what you guys are referring
to by PC hardware becoming obsolete, correct? It's not like
the hardware itself just breaks, it still works fine, it
just isn't as capable as it once was because PC developers
actually push boundaries.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to buy a console system and
then be able to play games on it for the next 5 years, but
the level of progression over those 5 years will be be about
the same as 2 years of PC development.

Consoles are not upgradeable. Installing a mod-chip so that
you can play burned games is not the same thing as swapping
out the GPU or adding more RAM, which nightex pointed out.

The difference in rendering power between a modern PC and a
360 or PS3 is absolutely vast. First off, consoles can't
even display true 1080p. The actual resolution of most 360
games is between 500 and 600p, which is then upconverted to
either 720 or 1080. (a select few games can output at 720).
Don't believe me? Furthermore, they can't even manage to get
stable framerates at this decidedly low resolution half of
the time, which is evidenced by the stuttering many console
games face at one point or another. Obviously the price
difference between a console and a good PC is quite large,
but the issue comes back to getting what you pay for. I'd
rather pay more for perfect performance at true 1920x1080
(1080p) resolution than pay a little and get bad performance
at sub-720 resolution. The whole upgrade thing is so
over-exaggerated, anyway. If you build a computer correctly,
it will play every game maxed out for at least 2 years.
Don't hate PCs just because you can't afford to build and
maintain one properly.

and you can usually play everything with pretty beefy

fraction, it's a compromise.

Well besides the obvious false advertising of "HD" consoles,
I simply meant to point out that are legitimate reasons to
invest in a PC. My gripe is with people who don't know what
they're talking about saying that PCs are worse simply
because they can't afford them. For the record, I own both a
Wii and PC. I have nothing against consoles, I just don't
see the point of buying a system that claims to be HD but
isn't, especially considering the fact that every game that
is, in my opinion, worth playing comes out on PC eventually.
I'll gladly wait longer and pay more for a superior product,
but I agree with Sano that it is a compromise either way.

Sure. But power doesn't always win.
Might be more practical to make music and play your games on
the comp. But i like to fire up my Snes you know? Playing
the wii (like you said). Using hardware to make music..

I still have my SNES, and it's true that power doesn't
always win. Graphics alone do not a good game make, which is
another reason I like PCs. It is neat to be able to just
fire up a system and play, but I think there is something to
be said about a "system" that boots up and then gives me
access to almost every console/game ever made, which is
possible on a PC with a bit of effort. Aside from PC games,
as it stands I have nearly perfect emulation for NES, SNES,
Sega master system, Megadrive/genesis, Turbo Gfx16, Arcade,
Amiga, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Gamegear, Neogeo,
and Nintendo DS on my computer, all playable with
controllers rather than keyboard/mouse. The true beauty of a
PC is that it has the ability to combine everything that is
great about video games into a single unit, while still
giving you the option to use your "game system" for other
things, often simultaneously.

I like video games too. But it's just working inside systems
that people have created. Thus accomplishing nothing. It
does pass the time in an entertaining way, though.

You might say the same for music, but I can say for myself
that music inspires and spurs me on in my life. And it
doesn't hurt that I consider myself a musician.

Video games are a fantastic escape. I just hope that it's
inspiring for alot of people.

YEah, if you're satisfied with shit graphics.

And the aiming isn't that great. The way it moves it not
that accurate- your can see it kinda moving in a jerky
motion across the screen.

I hated X-box controllers at first, but the 360 ones are far
better than original ones and it is good when you get used
to it. Very accurate.

Wii may be more innovative and fun in some ways, but it is
also greatly lacking in other major fields, such as graphics
and controller accuracy.
