Please, use the search feature or even open your eyes to
find out if a similar topic is ALREADY created BEFORE you
create one.

Too many similiar topics lately... :-/

Great Idea....a lot of good conversations are getting lost
in the deluge...

Maybe there should be a small point penalty for posting too
many topics...

I was going over this idea a long time: you start a thread,
you lose ten points. That should make people think twice
about their actions and only the things they think important
would be posted.

The only problem with the search feature is that most things
you search for are in a million topics, but then I spose it
wouldn't be that way if there weren't a lot of similar
topics...

Hey Phob, on the point sytem I was thinking that perhaps you
could get extra ones if your topic provoked a lot of
replies. Say 2 points for every 25 replies. Any ideas?

why don't you clear all the posts on sunday morning and then

topic.

But until then, let's hope people will have the sense to

Yup, I guess so. I was thinking the other day that there
ought to be somekind of 'reward' for a good topic. It would
encourage people to get involved. There have been some good
topics lately which have provoked a big feedback.
Perhaps you could just select them at your whim and regale
them as you saw fit (Not very egalitarian I know).

hey i just had an idea --

i know a frequent source of topic creation is people posting
URLs for their new songs -- why not either

a) have a seperate section where people can post their new
songs (eg "www.aphextwin.nu/newsongs" or something)

OR

b) have a special topic, instigated by webmaster or a
moderator which just deals with people's songs?

I don't see what all the fuss is about. I think the point
system isn't great but would be made even worse if you
started having them deducted for topics etc.

I think the reason why so many topics are repeated are
because we have nothing to talk about and everythings
already been covered. I'd say thats why when new albums are
released there is a hive of activity

I don't completely agree to this...
1 the 96% of the topic has been used before so it's always
difficult to find a new one
2 people seem more interested to some repeated topics such
as fav songs/ albums...sometimes they are resumed from
months ago and they come to new life(sorry for the poetic
words)such as worst afx track and so on...
3 according to me it doesn't help a newbie at all
3a because he/she enters on the mb when everything has been
said but he/she can't know it, and he/she has no fault in
that
3b because it you who decide if you want to reply, or not
because you replied to the same question month ago. A newbie
wants to make points as everyone, it' his/her right, he/she
wants to create a conversation..no one is forced
I hope you understand

I dunno, searching for old topics is a pain in the ass... I
don't mind topics being re-done over and over. There's
always new people that didn't take part in the last one, and
there's always shifts in our tastes... I like fresh threads,
I don't like digging up old ones with 100 replies, most of
which are out of date. The people that posted on it before
may have changed their minds since then.

I don't create many topics anyway, so it doesn't really
matter. Carry on.

I think everyone agree with that, the probem is that no one
can be blamed for putting out something old...if you think
it's old, past and done you don't read it and in one hour it
disappears...otherwise only the webmaster should choose what
topics dealing with to end up the question

well......my two cents!

i think a quick search on a topic would be worth the time,
especially when a repeated topic is only a couple days old.

i know that sometimes i tell people with the same topic to
search for this....or that...because all the info they may
need is on another topic that i recall.

some topic's like ......what are you listening to
now/favourite track/ etc.....those are cool...because things
change daily....and usually those topic's generate a lot of
responses and are continued for several days.

what i think phobia is talking about is those 'topics' that
don't generate responses.....for whatever reason.

before i post a new topic.....i will ask myself......is this
really worth sharing.....and if it's YES immediately then i
will post and hope others find it interesting as
well....whewwwww
i'm so wordy...ehehhe
=0)

My opinion (for what it's worth):

The reason there are so many posts/repeated posts is because
too many people use this as a 'chat' versus a MESSAGEboard -
I'd guess 85% of the posts here are no more than a few words
or a response of "yes" or "no" to a prior post. It's a
vicious circle - because it's so easy to post quickly,
people get into 'conversations' on threads and don't bother
actually typing something of substance versus just
agreeing/replying to what was just posted. Perhaps if it
wasn't as easy to post, the thread count would go down, thus
not as many people would post duplicate threads as then they
would be able to see what's gone on in the last few days.
Another idea is flood control (I dunno if Tune built that in
or not) and perhaps the time allowed between postings would
increase and thus 'put the brakes' on these rapid-fire
posts. I like this board, but it's boiling down to a matter
of quantity vs. quality - I'm sure Phob and the rest of you
would all like to actually READ posts versus skimming over
one-line converstations.

Perhaps everyone should stop and think for a moment before
posting/replying. That might increase the quality of the
threads and decrease their frequency.

I'm sure in the end it'll all get sorted out.

yeah, that's the problem (if there even is a problem)...
it's used as a chat not a messageboard. The best remedy I've
heard is to limit, say, 1 topic per person per day... you
could subtract points per topic, but points are completely
useless so that wouldn't do anything.

BE VERY Careful about introducing rules etc...I've seen a
lot of Boards go down hill (and I don't mean BOC ;)... after
that sort of situation...

each ot their own...if you wanna post simple word replies
then people will think of you as a simple 2 word
person...take some time and have a discussion and your rep
is up there...

But fuck, I like t'madenessss sometimes....hahahahah!

i have to say taht what joyrex said was well put. i
completely agree.

i think that maybe a part of the problem is related to the
points system. some people continuously post just to get
more points! sure, having a lot of points is kind of fun,
but in the end, it's a pretty arbritrary concept. if it
encourages good/intelligent/funny/interesting discussions,
than it's good. but if it makes people start pointless
threads...

but dont get me wrong, i like the points system. i think
it's an original idea. my compliments to whoever thought it
up :)

I DON'T think it's the point system. It was like this back
when V4 was around, too. Lot's of ''chats''... I may have a
huge point total (stop making fun of me), but I average like
180 characters a post. I try not to just spam little posts
everywhere.

Which I don't mind at all. There's lots of good topics,
too... this board is damn busy... there's been a bunch of
interesting topics made today. I ignore the bad stuff.
