I left Iceland in December after having lived and worked there for two years. What do you want to know? Night life was kinda disappointing but I admit my attempts at mixing with the locals were half-assed at best. Reykjavik is supposed to be an awesome partying place.
There is one Icelander left at XLT. He starts with N and the rest of the name is hard to remember.

I spent a week on Iceland the summer of 2004. It was great, beyond the romantic circumstances provided by the wedding cause. The nature is truly magic. If the vikings weren't superstitious when they came, they certainly became when seeing water boil, these overwhelming rapids, alluring rock erosion, as meticolously carved by Thor.
Reykjavik is "done" by a day, but stay at least also one night. In my opinion it deserves the title of "Europe's party capital". Somber by the day, the Icelanders feast at night, all night. It seems like all cars of the island cruise downtown and however crowded the beautiful pubs are, you're always made room and interest. The Icelandic xenophobia melts at night and everyone's invited to the dance.
I saw some parts of the inland and a day's trip bit of the Southern coast. The Northern beauty is renowned, next time I'll travel up there. If you have the opportunity of climbing a glacier, do it and feel akin to Oden.
Have a great stay!
I just bought my first synthesizer by the way.

I can definitely recommend the Western Fjords, but they are better during the winter. You don't get many views in this world like the one of Isafjordur during a sunny winter afternoon when the sea is calm.

bring you own booze! isn't it £8-9 a pint there or something daft. you can drink it up a volcano, alone with northern lights, away from pretty girls and feel secure that the universe is operating in accordance to it's own rules.

The prophet!
The synth, copped at a Swedish net auction: the TR-707. (Okay, a drum machine, not a synthesizer... WHO CARES? It's material and it sounds when hitting on it.) I will drum my neighbours out of the building! AND YOU'RE NEXT.
Iceland is perhaps more SH-101. Listen to Múm, Sigur Rós, foremost Reptilicus and specialities by Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, the most Northern Psychic TV member. See movies by Baltasar Kormákur and Friðrik Þór Friðriksson. Now, for me: Antichrist by previous Icelandic Dane bailiff Lars von Trier.

Masugnenssss - sounds amazing. I'm hoping to do it fairly cheaply - probably not the best place for a cheap holiday but yeah...I guess you get a bit more bang for buck these days.
Do you reckon a week is enough and where did you stay? Did you try rotting shark? Did you get to have sex with Jon Birgisson?
P.s congs on the synth

Guybrush!
I was fortunate to stay, for free, at a Icelandic friend's father's place in an outskirt of Reykjavik. Other young, underpayed wedding guest punks slept in downtown hotels. Hotels aren't cheap, nothing is over there. However you should have a (much) better exchange rate now.
I'm not a skilled traveller, I'm really not experienced in tourism, efficiently experiencing new territories of the world. But I would say your Icelandic week will give you unique memories for life.
I would recommend anyone my path, for the comfort and knowledgeble guidance to plan and book a one day senior citizen's buss tour in the South, another one day's field trip, perhaps more mountaineering, in the inlands. Don't miss heavenly Blue Lagoon near Keflavik airport, perhaps as a soothing adieu. Take several outdoor baths at Reykjavik days, nights. That would be even more fulfilling in cold autumn.
As for gastronomics, I in Reykjavik had the ever-most expensive yet standard diarrhoectic kebab, about $20. Do try national dishes: whale (tastes and smells like fish – looks, cooks and behaves as meat), har∂fiskur (dried fish with butter), pølse mi∂ øttlúr (a really tastefull, well-equipped kiosk sausage), in case of bravery also súrsaðir hrútspunga (ram's testicles). See Þorramatur for more explanatory cuisine advice. I must go back for the rottened shark (not erotic opportunities with fallen postrock stars; the girls are however cute and racially pure).
