"Moth"

samples up at juno

sounds ok, nothing special really. maybe the full length
tracks will be better.

I think it sounds exactly how you'd expect it to sound, and
I mean that in the most cynical way.

well theres not much info. one track is called moth and the
other is called wolf. just listening to the samples, i hear
elements of both artists, so i'd say they probably just
bounced ideas/renders off each other and this is the result.
no guarentee though.

samples are pretty fucking dire really aren't they? if these
tracks dont develop, then it's gonna be a pretty weak
twelve.

the samples sound quite boring, yes
i want to hear the whole thing though, just to see wether it
develops or not

I LIKE BOTH OF THEM. SOUNDS LIKE A COLLAB, RATHER THAN A
SPLIT 12.

longer samples here

dunno if its pitched down or is the actual correct speed,
but i prefer the a side like this. b side sounds much nicer
now we hear more of it too.

a weird release, but could be decent afterall.

I agree with you completely. Both tracks sound exactly as
you'd expect Four Tet and Burial to sound in a collab. To
me, it definitely sounds like they're working together, as
opposed to doing one track each.
The tracks don't sound too interesting to me, but I think
they're really lovely. I love four tet, and I love burial's
style a lot, but find his stuff can be a bit too samey.
Collabing with Four Tet seems to have added something really
lovely to his sound.

to me it sounds something they made together but via the
internet, especially Moth. i might be wrong but i can one
handing over another in the middle of the track-

hmmm yeah I do know what you mean actually, but I don't
think they'd have made it like that either way, like "you do
the first half then I'd do the rest" I'm sure they'd have
each had their bits throughout each track.
I don't even know why I'm pretending to know how a
collaboration works, I have absolutely no idea.

I think they rented a cottage in the country for a long
weekend, yet it all went wrong, they went out to do some
orienteering together, got lost in the woods, it was
raining, cold, they had to camp out stiching each other's
trendy top together to create a makeshift shelter, thought
they were going to die, gave each other one as they thought
it'd be their last opportunity to "do it", then were
rescued. This split 12" is a mutual final love letter as
well as being a seal on an eternal vow of silence. That's
what I hear.

Points: 31229 Status: Regular | Followup to SValx: #02289505 | Show recordbag

yup i don't pretend as well but my little experience says
that when making a collaboration, the most difficult task is
to make it seems like its one piece, and the only condition
do that is to actually like what the other have done, and
the less it happens, the more you fell the difference. imho
eh!

offline mohamed from the turtle business on 2009-05-05 10:44 [#02289510]

also having tried it i think that making musical collabs in
different times and places may suck for various reasons, to
do that properly two (or more) people have to be real
friends.

from what i read, they went to the same school together, so
they may actually know each other/be friends anyway.

the more i play it, the more i like. moth in particular is
lovely, especially pitched down.

Burial = Aphex
Four Tet = Aphex
Aphex = APHEX TWIN

Moth

yes, nice nice, but for 10 minutes? Ok, if it was the vinyl
itself I'd dig it, no question about that. It's not really
that Aphexish anyway. Lazy-Aphex at the most. Interesting
guitar-parts and samples though. I don't know about the
vocal.. It doesn't seem to give me what I need from it to
make this an awesome track. Let's hear it again...hmm, this
might actually grow. After having one Fernet it sounds
better and more interesting. It makes me wonder what would
happen if the Field were to sample this, strip it down and
speed it up - for it sounds a bit like a slowed down the
Field track. Indeed.

Wolf Cub

Well, well, well if it isn't good old Detroit . Sparkling,
bubbly synth washes. Phat pads. bleep bleep. And then the
beat and the reverb. A minimal, very organic sounding
breakbeat that quickly morphs the whole track into something
that sounds like what I'd expect Steve Reich to come up with
if he was to have a take on trip hop. Nice. Nicest!

Wolf Cub wins.

Wolf Club is giving me a Peter Gabriel vibe (and when I say
vibe, I mean of course, erection). I'm thinking Birdy. I
know my cultural references are limited.
