I just want to say, Hamas is miserable and the rockets are horrendous, but this assault is not about the qassams. Ehud Barak ordered the IDF to begin planning this assault before negotiations even started for this 6-month ceasefire which has just ended, as planned, on the 19th. The problem with this conflict is that people have a 3-week-long memory when it comes to these "developments," does anybody remember where these refugees came from? Not out of thin air. And anyway, Israel would kill Palestinians if there were no Hamas; it is not like they just started doing so when Hamas came to power. There was no "Hamas" in 1948 when they ethnically cleansed Palestine. But anyway, they would like to be rid of Hamas so that they can outsource some of this nasty and brutal occupation to miserable Fatah collaborators Dahlan and Abu Mazen, like they are doing in the West Bank. There are many Jews all over the world who care more deeply about the plight of the Palestinians than do many Arab leaders. Two days ago I saw photos of Iranian Jews in Tehran protesting Israel's bombs in Gaza. It's such a silly fabrication, the idea that Israel somehow speaks for all Jews. |

i don't think you can blame the west for this, even if they are responsible for huge parts of it. this is bigger than that really. you can't really say hamas is the bad guy, they are a reaction/consequence. israel has done things that are just shockingly terrible and cannot be compared to desperate angry people lobbing rockets. also israel has education and money, they should know better. you can't ask the same of the palestinians cos they haven't got the opportunity to be better than this. israel has a lot to answer for and one day it will have to. |

There was no "Hamas" in 1948 when they ethnically cleansed Palestine. The more I find out about , the more disgusted I am with Israel. This isn't some long forgotten incident. It's in living memory, and there are still Palestinians with papers of ownership for their old property. I don't think Israel can or should continue as it is currently constituted. Ideally, the state should be dissolved and the land should become a UN mandate for however long it takes for reparations to be made. That definitely, to me, includes right of return. Israel supporters, I'm sorry. Don't feel alone. The Mormons tried to build their own and that didn't work so well either. The west needs to cut off aid to Israel, impose a trade embargo, cease to recognize Israeli passports and currency, and in all other ways begin to treat them as a rogue state. |

Both sides are as bad as each other, but when you fire 80 rockets per day into a country during a so-called "truce" what do you expect the response is going to be? Especially when the rockets are periodically increasing in range. Israel demonstrates quite a bit of restraint considering the amount of rockets flung at them on a daily basis. During the Six Day War Israel annihalated Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria put together. If they really wanted to they could permanently destroy Hamas in seconds - as most other countries would do in the same situation. The Palestinians will never get the land they assume to be theirs, and the only way out of this will be through diplomacy - as usual. Not that Hamas want diplomacy, they're a bit like the IRA, the organisation has grown into a business for many, killing its own and bleeding money from its own people via a power-hungry hierarchy. A lot of them don't want peace at any cost. |
