i'm going on a trip with my friend, she is a pro cello player/ musician, so you can imagine she looks down on electronic music a little bit and thinks it's weird, i put on autechre's new album and she freaked out a bit and i had to turn it off because it upset her.
can you think of some electronic music which she might like? something which has a more orchestral sound perhaps?

I think she needs to hear music which has more of a structured framework which following certain rules, electronic music breaks all of those rules and so she has a hard time appreciating it . she was trained from young, so i can sort of understand why it bothers her..

Why are you so intent on getting this woman into electronic music?
It seems that she already has decent music taste if she listens/plays art music.
Why don't you impress her by showing your familiarity with art music? If you have any that is.

thanks wolfslice, i am taking notes...i actually do like some orchestral music, but i am determined to get her to like something synthetic, i must, it's my ego at stake for christs sake, i make electronic music myself, so i feel slightly down about this, because i fancy her

Usually if one "fancies" another they try to show they share similar interests.
You're after her, right?
If so, go after her.
You already know that she listens/plays art music. Learn about that music and impress her with your knowledge instead of turning her off with music that she seemingly has no interest in.
If you like her, you bring her flowers and not the other way around.

why do we have to impress these bits of fluff?

Why don't you just bring music that YOU enjoy and let HER bring music she enjoys?
Try talking to her. Find something else to relate to her with instead of bludgeoning her with music she doesn't like.
As a woman who has successfully wooed and have been wooed by other women, I can honestly say that it has never happened by someone forcing their interests on me.
Treat this girl right. She sounds special.

Put on the best album from 2008.
If you browse Boomkat for what they call "Modern Classical" you will find a lot of good stuff that mix electronica and classical music, and it might be some ear openers for both of you. Search for names like: Hauschka, Elegi, Deaf Center, Svarte Greiner, Hannu, Marsen Jules, Sylvain Chaveau.

i agree with the lesbien, you don't have to force music she doesn't like down her throat. i've known a few classical music snobs and they are stuck in their own little world where anything non-traditionally made isn't worth listening to. you won't break them.

don't try to impress her she'll see right through you. and don't try to influence her, let her influence yo. this being said, i recommend 'on the romance trip' by caustic window. once upon a time i actually had a girlfriend and she wasn't too keen on afx but one day this was playing and she was like "ooh, this is nice". i immediately made love to her then and there.

Depends on how crazy you are looking for. I would suggest Ochre's new EP death of an aura to start. Maybe some lemongrass (only the Filmotheque album.)
What about the that classical vsnares album?
Let me check some of my records when I get home, im kind of out of it right now and drawing a blank.

doing a nice playlist for getting into electro is a special hobby of me and i prepared one for my date tonite. then i came to my mind and put it away and made a punkrock/ska playlist instead we both could easily enjoy.
but either way, musical taste is really not for impressing somebody its too personal, not measurable enough...
people in here have very different tastes already and we all dig electro. so keep that crusading and converting for later,
when the time is right.

A sure fire way to introduce her to new music is by hosting a music listening party:
Invite four or five friends round, be selective go for people who have very different tastes.
Have them choose three tracks on different themes, ie. 1. A Cover Version 2. Movie soundtrack 3. The best song from the year of your birth
have three rounds of each theme, discuss, drink wine!
