If, for example you choose a banjo, does it come with a
limitless amount of strings and picks?

1) a computer counts as one piece of gear and you can have
as much software on it that you want

2)you don't get a limitless amount of strings if using a
stringed instrument

3) solar power

Are you allowed to choose gear that can also have more
important survivalist qualities, like a steel drum that can
be used as a cooking pot?

Or is it assumed that the desert island is fully catered
with clean water and medical supplies?

What about drum kits?

Does a 150 peice rock god kit count as one bit of gear?

Any chance of a free cowbell if it is attached to the bass

A stool a stand isn't really an instrument so it's not a
piece of gear but I don't trust you - you'd find a way to
make an instrument out of one so no you can't have it

3, a big seashell (ocean waves effect)

your fifth instrument could be some tape or elastic so you
can wrap the seashells around your head and hit the coconut
shells together at the same time.
