I live on the east coast and attend parties on a regular basis. Over the past few years I've watched so many kids fall out of the scene and the other half is just a bunch of bitter hags who stand around bitchn'. I feel like I'm one of the only dancers left on the floor. I'm not jaded though, I'll still go out there and dance like a wild indian ready to crush any e-tard in my path.Just wondering...what's the situation in your nec of the woods... thanks---->Donna |

Not much of a scene here... 5 hours away, in Halifax, I guess there's raves. But they suck... I don't see the appeal. And the music is AWFUL. When I try to get people into electronic music like Aphex and BOC, they won't even give these great artists a chance, because they assume electronic music = RAVE music, which isn't true at all. |

ya raves are pretty popular in toronto ive never been to one, and dont plan on it though i dont really like dance music.. im not a big dancer i prefer to sit still and listen, perhaps taping my foot if im in a really energetic mood |

I used to party a lot, here in the NY area, but either I grew up or the scene got worse. I still love drum 'n bass and breaking, but trance and house music make me physically ill, and because I don't really take any E any more I have to actually listen to it in order to dance. I'm an elitist IDM bastard now, and I don't think I'll be going to another party for a while unless the DJ has a laptop. =) |

I don't like dance music... IDM may have ''dance'' in there, but in no way would I consider it that. I can't dance to Port Rhombus or Vletmrx21... IDM is a moronic term. I like early Aphex, the simpler stuff that you COULD dance to, but even THAT has some aspects that set it apart from normal ''dance'' crap that you hear at raves. |

I went to a lot of raves for a while and had some good times, but it's just not worth it for me. The utopian rave scene would be bliss, but nobody really cares about the good times and the shared experience; everyone's either lookin for party to get fucked up at or else they use the rave scene to continue the clique-oriented elitist mindstate that they pick up in highschool. Fuck all that. I do imagine Goa might still have some wild and peaceful party atmosphere still. Could you imagine raving at the beach next to some ancient ruins in India? |

I have this friend Teak,he's been Djing for over 10yrs, plays house music and when I try and get him to give the Aphex a listen he can't stand it won't even let me play it in his car and I don't understand why he can't appreciate it. i realized a couple months ago that i've alienated myself from most people who listen to electronic music because they listen to stuff you can dance to and i don't (listen to that; not dance). i feel like i don't even like "techno" at all cos i hear some rave/club/house stuff and it makes me sick, worse than the state of commercial rock music right now. i guess i've been spoiled by brainy music. |

i don't have a problem with the empathetic community love thing, but it's just not real. ecstacy always makes me feel that everything is suddenly all good, but when i come down i realize that whatever it is that keeps us from feeling that way all the time is not being healed by ecstacy, only and repressed and denied. this leads to mad prpblems, and when i'm at a rave i feel like i'm swimming in those problems. |

Most rave scenes seem to have a built-in 2yr life span...kinda like the incept date for the Replicants in Bladerunner... People get burnt-out, E's stop working and the whole thing kinda collaspes...it a pretty widly documented phenomen; you have your "Honeymoon Period" & then you have a time of "Darkness"; this seem to happen all over...London, Manchester, Berlin, New York... I'm just happy they used to play a lot of Aphex/Caustic Window at the Raves I used to go to... |
