well.. anyone else seen this? just got back and.. it's rather odd. the cgi had some definitely disgusting moments, and the storys direction is questionable enough that it makes sense if some people are against it..
however, after much thought, i think i like it. for the most part, it was pretty funny and had the same kind of charm from where last crusade left off. also, considering how ridiculous and over the top the last films have been, i guess this is a pretty logical step.
for those who have seen (i've tried to make this as spoiler-less as possible for those who havent), what did you think?

he looks just like old harrison ford. besides the infamous suit, there seems to be no effort in making him look like indiana jones. it's just harrison ford in a suit.
it still works though..

I remember reading that they wanted to keep CGI to a minimum and maintain the spirit of "old-style" film-making (old as in the 1980s); but then I've read that there's a whole CGI jungle or something, so I'm wondering if they gave up this idea of authenticity and whether the film suffers for it.

It was crap. They even made the groundhogs with cgi. Shia laboof sucked. Cate Blanchett wasn't even half as even as any of the other villians. Oh, and the story was bogus.

it was straight rock n roll. i don't think i put a lot of thought into whether i liked it or not...it was just good. major fun.
Kate Blanchett was the most perfect thing going on in it.
re: the cgi, i think it would have been a genius move on the filmmakers' part to purposefully use the same old school optical effects and techniques they used in the 80's. done in the context of being a huge director with a lot of money at his finger tips Spielberg had a shot at looking like a badass in that way. i'm not saying don't used cgi, just used optical effects too.

Hmmm, did you find Kate Blanchett's character entertaining because you knew it was her? I thought there was absolutely nothing interesting in her. She was like a parody of a SM Soviet/Nazi female lieutenant without the funny that parody implies.

just good mindless fun i thought. completely ridiculous and over the top, but fortunately i wasnt hoping for something to reach the brilliance of raiders or temple of doom anyway.
also, i went to see it on opening night at midnight in my college town, so the whole atmosphere of people all walking around wearing fedoras and drunk as fuck (i was sipping whiskey and drinkin beers in the second row) just adds that much more to the fun (seeing snakes on a plane that way was just utter brilliance).

It was pretty good. About as good as I could have hoped for. I mean what elese did people want/expect? 'They' and by 'they' people who've seen it know what I am talking about, I knew they had to turn up in an Indiana Jones movie eventually.
I think they left it a tad too long to do another movie though. it felt like there should have been one ten years ago that this one is following up. I had no problems with any CGI. there was barely any in it! What there was didn't get much in the way seeing as there wasn't much in it!

spoilers.if indiana can survive riding down those insane rivers at the start of the temple of doom, then im sure he's perfectly capable of surviving a nuclear blast in a fridge. i also loved that mac character, who let out an incredible amount of "Jonesy"s during the film. as odd as it was seeing the cgi aliens and space crafts in an indiana jones, i'm glad they used it in the film, espicially considering the last film dealt with the bible and holy grail.
i let out a giggle at the scene in the warehouse where the crate with the arc breaks open and the score from raiders slips in. even funnier considering they used the very same joke in last crusade.

i thought immediately that the fridge/nuclear test site idea was a nod to or a recycle from the original idea for Back to the Future which was that a refrigerator was the time machine and the movie opened at a nuclear test site cause you needed nuclear power to run the thing.

I liked this film a lot. There were a few indeed odd things in it, like the cgi groundhogs, but luckily they only appear at the beginning of the movie. What i also found quite odd was the intro to the movie... At first i thought what this scene had to do with IJ, but it was just to wake the illusion of this 'army' being friendly comrads (i think). And also, what happened to the title screen? I can barely remember it, but i think it looked kinda amaturistic, just the plain black fonts... But then the first action bit was awesome, the fridge bit made up for the pain a lot, and then it went smack bang back into the traditional indiana jones style movie. And i enjoyed it, a lot.
The new Rambo was kinda meh, too much kills they wanted to put in 90 minutes (or so) of movie which felt like they couldn't squeeze in any more storyline because of the 1000 liters of blood was already filling it's spot on the bandwagon. But then again i liked it because the killing was quite harsh, and i like that, it makes me laugh.
I also may have to recommend trying Iron Man, it's not the same story as Marvel told it, but i enjoyed this a lot.

this movie was everything I expected, really. a lot of fun and over-the-top scenes. the introscreen I believe was the same font used in raiders and last crusade, so that's probably why it looked a bit amaturish.
also, I didn't know Shia was in the movie until I saw the beginning credits, which was nice cus I've grown to like him. brought a lot to the movie, imo.
I'm not gonna overanalyze this film, it shouldn't be, so I'm just gonna leave it at "worth it".

yeah the time machine was going to be a fridge, but they got scared that kids would get in their fridges and die so they changed it. then they made it into a car so it would be mobile. it became a DeLorean specifically because of the joke about the car looking like a UFO on the kids comic book. they needed a car that looked all future like that.

...this movie was bad, really bad.
MAJOR SPOILERS
I wasn't a big fan of Temple of Doom but this movie make that one look like gone with the wind.
It was entertaining on a certain level but I caught myself laughing a lot due to the ridiculous shit happening.
I think its really strange how these alien skulls are so highly magnetic that you can throw gun powder in a huge warehouse and it will fly towards the box containing the skull...it will pull almost any metal object towards it thats made of any kind of metal metallic and non-metallic...yet when you cover it with a PIECE OF CLOTH its magnetically powerless.
*grenades don't have gun powder in them either*
the bomb site town... why does the sink not work but a dummy with a garden hose has running water? what's the fucking point with that? And then the fridge... oh he survived because it was lined with lead. I didn't know that stuff also shielded you from intense heat and being tossed arond from the blast wave only too see him get out of it (some how b/c thats the kind that doesn't allow you to open it from the inside hence the back to the future choice to go with a car.)
that graveyard scene... who the fuck were those assholes with the masks jumping around like retards with the blow guns that apparently have both ends of a poison tipped dart...
the chase through the jungle was insanely stupid. A where have you ever seen one of those trucks with the huge buzz saws before? the whole tarzan thing with the monkeys oy. I guess monkeys are cool with you if you have the same 'greaser' haircut...and know that they should attack communists...
the snake scene with Indy stuck in the sand...what a bunch of shit.
the triple agent douche bag...
the janitor from scrubs as a fed
and what the fuck was with Indy? It sounded like he joined the military at some point... i mean, no backstory there? we're suppose to figure that out for ourselves? or are they saving that for Indy 5 the prequal/sequal

the movie has no depth what so ever. I read someplace that they were going to keep CGI to a minimum but the cut of the movie i saw apparently took a shit all over that.
and then the lost city... thats protected by the 'undead' who apparently have been sealed into the fucking stone walls for who knows how long... and why were they still there... weren't there other people that came in and stole the skull(s) to begin with... and apparently the undead can be shot and killed (they can be in zombie movies but there's no backstory here)
so when they replace the skull what's the big reward? the aliens melt your fucking BRAIN... where have we seen this before? Raiders maybe?
My expectations weren't great going into this movie after what George Lucas did to the Star Wars franchise but I thought that Steven Spielberg would at least slap him in his fat face and say no tubby... but apparently that didn't happen. So another franchise I love soiled with another shitty sequel that will a ton of bank and make the investors think these two douche bags still 'have it'

I'm just reading that Shia Lebeef's character is part-based on Brando in The Wild One... and that Spielberg gave him that film along with Rebel Without A Cause and Blackboard Jungle to watch to help "find" his character... ha! I don't think he's quite in the same league as Brando or James Dean... he's hardly in the same league as Yogi Bear... hot diggity, the more I read about this film, the more trepidation I have about seeing it.

Good bits:
i want to see it again i liked it allot
indi did well with the action bits ....i forgot how old he was '65 '....seemed like the same young indy at times.
really good ...some of the cgi was awesome. but much of it is a cartoon feel errgg!! why?!???...
a good film will take you in and you can forget your sitting in an arm chair...mix in cgi and your constantly reminded its not real.
always analising ....is that cgi?? of definately is its a talking giraffee !! what about that??? what did indi say there was a dancing moose behind him , justs puts me off the immersion and flow.
whats with lucas always raming a furry animal in?
even in the new star wars in space he had a chipmonk floating in zero g going ...."yyyeeeeeeeekkk""
he needs to do kids cartoons , he would be awesome at it.
great film tho im gonna see it again on line.

Asked about a sequel at a Cannes Film Festival party, he says he answered: "'I guess if I found an object for him to go after, we could do the sequel. But it took me 20 years to find the last object, so I don't know whether that will ever happen.' "
20 years to figure that plot out? jeesus...

"it took 20 years to find the last object"
Fuck that guy!! If it took so long to figure out what the next item would be... why did he take a whole 10 minutes to flesh out the final draft of the script? It honestly felt like they wrote this steaming piece of shit as they were shooting it. "We've got the basic idea, we'll fill in the missing pieces as we go... with ewoks or something"
the other thing that pissed me off was the opening scene. In every previous movie there was always the opening scene that had Indy in some strange situation that had nothing to do with the main story... looking for some different item... this movie didn't have that at all, I had "a bad feeling about this" <-- make sure you lift lines from the other franchise you buttfucked royally GL
and if the movie made 300 million in the opening weekend you can bet your ass there's going to be 3 scripts Lucas found underneath a tub of bacon fat or whatever that fat fuck fills his fat bearded fucking face with. And they'll probably all star Shia LaDouchebag (wtf is that guy in every fucking movie anyway?)
