Shit! I almost liked it then! But then he HAD to start
singing. When he went extra whiney I actually sicked up into
my mouth just a tiny bit. My tongue tastes nasty now.
When i gave it a quick drunken listen last night the
instrumentation seemed alot worse. It's not bad for a few
seconds.

i'm with opti on this one. i also hate garden state, but
i've never seen it, i just based it on my friend constantly
listening to the gushy, boring soundtrack.

i like an indie act or two, but most of the time it's
overbearing. i don't feel the need to tell people that i'm
sensitive by listening to bland music with 'pleasant'
sounds.

i took apart my keyboard yesterday and cleaned everything
and now the spacebar is f'd, crud

Can somebody please fill me in on the connection between
this particular aphex-cover song and the movie Garden
State?!?

I like this.

What is Garden State? From the previous posts I think I am
better off not knowing.

this cover is considered by some to be "indie."

the soundtrack of "garden state" is considered by some to be
"indie."

if you dislike "garden state" and it's "indie" soundtrack,
then you can say this cover is "as bad as 'garden state.'"

some people just hate anything "indie," which means
independent, for some reason, as if all things "indie" or
independent sound the same.

at least, that seems to be the case.

I know now, god bless you Google and all who sail in you. It
sounds like a movie my wife would choose.

indie is just like pop, but it's pretentious

It doesn't seem like my kind of thing, Ghostbusters 2
tonight, again. If you havn't seen this masterpiece, it
picks up from where the first one left off, but rather than
the comedy hi-jinx of the first it explores the spiritual
mythology of ghosts. Leaving you with the painful question
of the existence of an afterlife.

Garden State is as dumbfucked and brainless as any romantic
comedy from the US over the last 30 years. If the soundtrack
is indie? Let me check: No, it bloody ain't!

"indie" really means somewhat popular music that you don't
like.

No, it means music for students

I quite liked it apart from the singing and the looping at
the end.

You can't keep a good melody down, even by taking away the
bleeps, bloops and snare rushes.

So in conclusion: cut out the 2nd half, remove vocals and
there you go: a good cover of a great song.

no, I don't...but ok, the term lost it's original meaning
when major record companies saw the potential of making a
buck on bands like blur and oasis in the mid 90's and labels
like Creation and Factory was saved from bankruptcy by the
same major labels... soon indie was establish as a genre,
even though it really is not....

ok i see where you're coming from.

it truly has become a pejorative term (among some), and
often the musics referred to as "indie" have little in
common.

maybe the pejorative angle is more north american...

Yes. If the vocals were gone and the singer could maybe die
in a horrible accident then this track would be hard to
hate. The melody is nicely done

Btw, I'm giving away one invite to indietorrents.com - It's
awesome and indie only in the true sense of the word. Anyone
interrested? You need to be able to follow some simple but
important rules and there is also a ratio system. If you
think you can handle it, then drop me a line...

The vocals when they first come in are grating but they seem
to settle down - I wouldn't class this as "Indie" music - it
sounds more folksy to me maybe because of the source
material, I dono if the artist is considered Indie because
I've never heard of him.

Garden State is a really shit film directed by and starring
that prick from Scrubs, another awful tv show.
