how bout just a different brain alltogether, kim peek's
brain, but with less doofishness, and just eliminate that
stupid humor of his.

kim peek is not very intelligent just good at remembering
and recalling things

well that's intelligence to me, maybe not inventive, but
more intelligent than most. And the fact that he makes
connections between various streams of data is pretty
interesting.

what i meant by the comment was max 5 still uses the same
basic audio engine as previous versions- which imo sounds
weak compared to something like supercollider. Shame they
didn't overhaul it too.

may i ask what that means to one who is willing to learn it?

tool.

to clear things up, basically i'm pretty fine with the idea
of reading quite important thingies in my language wrote by
one who claims to teach music concepts in a certain way. i'm
also fine with the idea of the do not write fucking code to
make music :)

I'm sticking with reaktor for now, Reaktor is much less
dependent on order of signal flow so you can throw something
together more quickly and not loose your sense of
creativity. but it's useless comparing the 2, they are very
different, i'm just too lazy to get to grips with max now

with this shit of the crisis i'm stuck at work doing nothing
for most of the time, i plan to put there all the
lazyness/complain and stay focused at night

You're absolutely right. SC3's sound engine is superior to
all.

Max/MSP is not that much better than any other graphical
music-making method, unless you're willing to learn how to
interface it with its Java interpreter (or some other thing
like that) which is still pretty weak at best. At that
point, you might as well move to SC3 or ChucK.

offline mohamed from the turtle business on 2009-10-02 08:11 [#02332715]

at that point you might move to a couple bottles and a stick
which engine is superior than Max, SC3 or ChucK put together

You need the OhmBoyzzzzz to explain how to use MAX they will
make a video and then you can use the buttons to EDIT-IT

Mo, the following is what I'll be studying over the next few
months. If you wanted I'd be more than happy to send you
lecture notes, example patches and the like.

1. Develop students knowledge and skills in the use of
interactive technologies that can be employed to interface
with music, soound, and video. This will include expanded
use of MIDI systems and control. This may involve in-depth
use of technologies such as the I-Cube system (incorporating
use of CV to MIDI conversion using devices such as heat,
light, proximity, and touch sensors), the Soundbeam system
(incorporating ultrasound to MIDI sensors) and MIDI lighting
desks.

2. Analysing and investigating different creative
applications of new interactive technologies. This will
involve increasing students knowledge and skills in
developing interactive installations that involved use of
sound, as well as working cross-media, and examining a range
of compositional techniques.

3. Develop skills in object-oriented programming in the form
of Max/MSP and introducing student to Radial (for loop based
control) and Jitter (for audio-visual interaction and
manipulation).

4. Introduce student to Archaos and VJam for MIDI based
video control.

5. Develop students compositional skills, with particular
relevance to real-time computer interaction, and use of live
electronics in performance.

hey sounds good but this:

3. Develop skills in object-oriented programming in the form

of Max/MSP

is LOL. Max/MSP is not OOP (although how it looks like might
imply that oh, there's objects, so it's oop). Tell that to
the person who wrote this line!
and try Processing imo.

you can do OOP stuff using javascript objects.

Because of the strangely-huge user community, Max/MSP has a
host of objects that can imbed other (better) languages into
Max/MSP, thus giving it a pseudo-OOP feel.
