coachella

Aphex Twin and Goldfrapp have just been added to the
COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL 2008 bill. Kate Nash,
Serj Tankian, Redd Kross, and Adele have also joined the
line-up (see full list below) for this year's ninth annual
festival set for Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and
Sunday, April 27 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA.

3 day tix are the only ones left, and coachella does
inevitably sell out each year - this is probably their push
to do that.

and no refund, im just as stoked for burning man, i just
wish i could go to both, but i certainly dont have an extra
$350

considering how low on the list he is, im guessing he'll be
playing at one of the smaller tents, mojave most likely, and
prolly in the middle of the day.

sounds perfect.

gaaah so jealous.

techno and rave stuff that only a 35 year old ex E head

even more reason not to go, the hopes of american aphex twin
fans are so enormously high, he hasnt played live here since
what 1997? and he busts out a hilariously lackluster DJ set
like hes been doing in europe for the past 5 years, people
will be very very angry

dont you think because of kraftwerk and others like
portishead, isnt that a good reason for him to show up? i
dont care if doesnt care at all about his fans, but ive
never been to cali and i just think of it as a good thing to
do.

for a while/ever open at coachella, it is fucking
EEEEEPIIIIIC

see: daft punk, ratm, justice...

he played LA ATP in 2002, fucking good sounding set too

offline Rook from United States on 2008-03-16 10:41 [#02185633]
Points: 179 Status: Lurker

yea I liked the ATP set. I think some of his dj sets are
pretty good, especially considering the amount of unreleased
material he usually plays. I mean, listen to the snowbombing
set, or the Torino Italy set. Those have some pretty rad
stuffs in them.

But yea it would be nice to get a RDJ set without the crap
hip hop and some of the gayer jungle stuffs he spins.

offline jackeroffer from Aruba on 2008-03-16 11:04 [#02185636]
Points: 1038 Status: Lurker

i mean id just rather him not spin and play live, is that
too much to ask for?

im really sick of paying to watch people spin records

offline Rook from United States on 2008-03-16 13:19 [#02185663]
Points: 179 Status: Lurker

Yea, it would be really nice to have a complete live set by
Aphex. I mean, I think it is a pretty big ripoff for Aphex
to charge as much as he does when essentially you are only
paying for the name and maybe two or three unreleased or
rare tracks.

I don't get the big name djs at all while we are on the
subject. I mean, when it comes to djing, it should just be
about good music played loud. Not about the dj himself.

I wouldn't mind if he only spun his own music though.
Because considering the amount of hardware that went into
the Tuss and Analord records, it isn't really reasonable for
him to perform that live. I mean, he hasn't played live with
hardware since like 94-95 or so right? I mean, the 97 tour
was all computer I think yes?

I just seems really cheap of him to charge God knows how
much for just him playing his record collection in an
"artistic" fashion.

Go Ae lol.

"I just seems really cheap of him to charge God knows how

unfortunately rook you and i seem to be some of the only
aphex fanboys to find this unacceptable, quite a lot of them
are ready and willing to get a huge meat injection up the
butthole in order to tell there friends they saw aphex twin
'live' when in fact they saw him on 80mg oxycontin play 12
records.

there's no telling when dude.

if they announced when tix would sell out, there'd be no
insentive to buy them earlier, and then they wouldnt sell
out.

just get em while you can.

"daft punk, ratm, justice." Play to the mob 'rock' mentality
which is great in a festival situation. Don't expect
another Daft Punk event hedphukkerr.

im just saying, when bands play coachella, they try and do
it BIG!

sure, richie will prolly just be taking the piss of it all,
but there will be enough girl-pant-wearing pitchfork-reading
indie fanbois there to make it an event to see none the
less.

hot during the day.

well its the desert, thats to be expected.

one of the best tips i could give to coachella first timers
would be to go to all the trash cans and pick out as many
empty bottles as possible because when you bring 10 empty
bottles to the recycling tents, they give you a free bottle
of water. Wandering around the sahara/rave tent after a set
makes this even easier.

also, bring a few packets of emergen-c with you - saves you
the trouble of spending extra cash on gatorade. then
sometime in the day buy a salted pretzel to make sure you
dont get exsalinated.

hydration at coachella is key and knowing how to deal with
that shit makes it infinitely more enjoyable.

oh hell no, i dont think anyone could ever top dp's
coachella performance.

im not gonna spend any time imagining what afx's set could
be like considering im not gonna be going.

the closest thing i would say would be to expect something
new, different. not just new tuss tracks or something, but i
bet he'll be blowing the lid off something big.

a coachella performance can make or break a bands tour, and
they know this, so people always wanna make some kind of
spectacle at the event.

well i can't say too many specifics cuz you can't really
make statements about such speculations, but i just know
from what ive seen happen with word of mouth/internet, a
good coachella performance certainly gives a band tons of
exposure.

daft punk is a perfect example - they were a big band before
hand, but coachella spawned a new crowd of an absolutely
devout fanbase, of which i am a proud member.

oh, another was hot chip, whose dancier live show gave
people a different taste of their studio efforts.

and justice had already culled a much larger base on the
internet than what i had expected (i was very surprised at
the number of make-shift crosses in the crowd), but after
that show it was a given that they were going to be the
biggest thing in electro-dance music since dp.

yeah but that was when discovery came out, nearly 5 years
before coachella. at the time, people had kind of forgotten
about them: human after all was a bit of a disappointment
and without any live shows for a decade there wasnt much to
keep people interested. what im saying is that coachella
created an entirely new fan base on top of those who had
been fans from before, and it seriously catapulted dp back
into the realm of super-stardom.

" justice had already culled a much larger base on the
internet than what i had expected"

I was going to take a pedantic stance on the use of 'culled'
but I won't.

The manager of Daft Punk (Pedro Winter (Busy P)) plants
Crosses in the audience. Not him but employees of the...

whatever. I'm ruining it. forget it.

my, how big of you :P

okay, so they pass out promo material - every band does
that. theres not much to ruin for me, all im saying is
coachella is known for having big performances by big
artists as well as leading to a lot of smaller band getting
discovered by a large number of people.
